Summary: Syzygium cumini fruit extracts have shown strong anti-inflammatory activities, with key bioactive compounds identified as delphinidin 3-glucoside, peonidin-3,5-diglucoside, and gallic acid. These results demonstrate that S. cumini fruit extracts are a rich source of bioactive compounds that are promising leads for anti-inflammatory drug discovery.

Antimicrobial effects of silver nanoparticles and extracts of Syzygium cumini flowers and seeds: Periodontal, cariogenic and opportunistic pathogens

Summary: This study investigated the antimicrobial effects of lyophilized hydroalcoholic extract and silver nanoparticles of S. cumini seed and flower, finding that they exhibited varying degrees of antimicrobial activity against different pathogens. The AgNPs had stronger bacteriostatic and fungistatic effects than the plant extracts but required significantly lower concentrations.

Plant-derived compounds are being explored as potential safer substances for cancer treatment. The study found that Syzygium cumini ethanolic extract demonstrated significant anti-cancer effects on the HT-29 colorectal cancer cell line.
