Synthesis of hydrophobic nanosized hierarchical titanosilicate-1 zeolites by an alkali-etching protocol and their enhanced performance in catalytic oxidative desulphurization of fuels

Linghao Li et al.

Summary: Nano-sized hierarchical titanosilicate-1 zeolites with abundant intracrystal mesopores and high surface area were synthesized. They exhibited superior catalytic performance and excellent removal ability for sulfur compounds in fuels. A new Ti-dopant directed alkali-etching mechanism was proposed for their synthesis.

Synergistic removal of As(V) from aqueous solution by nanozero valent iron loaded with zeolite 5A synthesized from fly ash

Liyun Yang et al.

Summary: NZVI loaded on zeolite 5A can efficiently remove As(V) in water, with the removal capacity almost unaffected by solution pH in the pH range of 4-12. However, the As(V) removal efficiency decreases with high concentrations of PO43- present in the solution. After 5 cycles, the NZVI-5A zeolite achieved an As(V) removal efficiency of 84.0% and could be separated from the solution using an external magnetic field.

Stabilizing CuI in MIL-101(Cr) by introducing long-chain alkane for adsorptive desulfurization

Jia-Xin Shen et al.

Summary: By grafting octadecylphosphonic acid (OPA) onto metal nodes on the surface of metal-organic frameworks, a superhydrophobic microenvironment has been tailored to stabilize CuI against oxidation. The research results demonstrate that modifying surface properties can enhance the activity and stability of Cu(I) materials, showing potential applications in desulfurization and other fields.

Effects of SiO2-doping on high-surface-area Ru/TiO2 catalysts for the selective CO methanation

Sebastian Cisneros et al.

Summary: In this study, four different Ru/TiO2 catalysts were prepared and examined to investigate the impact of SiO2 content on the catalysts' performance in selective CO methanation. The results showed a volcano-shaped dependence of methane formation activity on SiO2 content, with the maximum activity observed at 4-8 wt.%. Additionally, weaker CO adsorption strength was found in the most active catalysts, indicating a complex combination of different effects contributing to the higher activity and lower CO adsorption strength.

Local structure of Pt species dictates remarkable performance on Pt/Al2O3 for preferential oxidation of CO in H2

Yang Chen et al.

Summary: This study found that Pt nanoparticles supported on an inert substrate can catalyze total CO conversion and CO2 selectivity over a broad temperature range, depending on the local structure of Pt active centers. The ensemble of Pt(OH) and metallic Pt plays a critical role in this process.

Correlating hydrophobicity to surface chemistry of microstructured aluminium surfaces

L. Savio et al.

Summary: The study investigates highly hydrophobic aluminium surfaces fabricated by chemical etching using Contact Angle Goniometry, Scanning Electron Microscopy, and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy to correlate wettability with morphology and chemical composition. The etched aluminium surfaces exhibit binary structures with nanoscale block-like convexities and hollows, providing more space for air trapping. Results demonstrate that both hierarchical micro/nanostructures and surface composition contribute to excellent hydrophobic properties.

The water gas shift reaction: Catalysts and reaction mechanism

Erlisa Baraj et al.

Summary: The water gas shift reaction (WGSR) is a moderately exothermic reaction between carbon monoxide and steam, typically conducted in two stages at different temperatures with different catalysts. There is no universally accepted reaction mechanism for WGSR, and catalyst deactivation presents a limitation on its utilization. Various catalysts are active for WGSR, and catalyst preparation and pre-treatment steps play a crucial role in catalyst activity.

Adjusting accommodation microenvironment for Cu+ to enhance oxidation inhibition for thiophene capture

Yu-Xia Li et al.

Summary: Cu+-containing materials have great potential in various applications but are hindered by poor stability of Cu+ in air. Moisture accelerates Cu+ oxidation, but modifying the microenvironment to hydrophobic with polydimethylsiloxane coating can significantly enhance Cu+ stability. The optimized Cu2O@HK@P demonstrates superior adsorption capacity for thiophene removal from hydrous fuel compared to other materials.
