Phase Equilibrium of Cross-Associating Mixtures Using Association Theory-Based Equation of State

Ahsan Kamil et al.

Summary: In this study, the Polar PC-SAFT and UNIQUAC models were used to model the VLE and excess properties of solvating mixtures. While UNIQUAC struggled in capturing the highly nonlinear function of activity coefficient curves, Polar PC-SAFT successfully predicted the distribution of hydrogen bonds and excess properties in the systems studied.

Applications of an Association Activity Coefficient Model, NRTL-PA, to Alcohol-Containing Mixtures

Aseel M. Bala et al.

Summary: A new method called NRTL Plus Association (NRTL-PA) is developed and evaluated for calculating the activity coefficients in alcohol + hydrocarbon systems. The method combines Wertheim's perturbation theory, FlorATIN's theory, and NRTL's residual contribution to accurately represent the simultaneous VLE, LLE, and excess enthalpy with the same set of parameters. The NRTL-PA model outperforms the traditional NRTL model and accurately represents the increase in excess enthalpy as temperature increases.

Nonrandom two-liquid activity coefficient model with association theory

Yifan Hao et al.

Summary: The NRTL theory, a versatile classical thermodynamic model, does not explicitly account for specific chemical associations like hydrogen bonding, leading to unsatisfactory representation in some association systems. This study proposes a practical approach to integrate different theories in order to improve predictive capability for higher order systems.

Activity Coefficients from an Equation of State: Novel Approach for Fast Phase Equilibrium Calculations

Walter G. Chapman et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel theoretical approach to calculate activity coefficients, allowing for faster phase equilibrium calculations. By developing an activity coefficient model, excellent experimental data consistency is achieved in mixtures dominated by self-assembly, solvation, and dipolar interactions. The suggested method shows potential in practice for improving simulation accuracy and speed.

Revisiting the treatment of cross-association interactions in oxygenate mixtures with the polar PC-SAFT equation of state

Bennett D. Marshall et al.

Summary: A new approach is developed for the cross-association of non-self-associating oxygenates with carbonyl oxygens within polar PC-SAFT. By adjusting hydrogen bonding parameters and binary interaction parameters, accurate phase behavior between these two types of molecules can be reproduced.

Summary: The perturbed chain-statistical associating fluid theory (PC-SAFT) equation of state (EoS) is applied and evaluated using a thermodynamic database, including 200 non-electrolytic binary systems. The assessment is based on various properties, and deviations between model predictions and experimental data are calculated using a proposed methodology.
