Chemical Effects of CO2and H2O Addition on Aromatic Species in Ethanol/Air Diffusion Flame

Nasreldin M. Mahmoud et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigated the effects of adding water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2), main components of exhaust gas, on soot formation in ethanol diffusion flames. The results showed that the thermal effect of H2O and CO2 reduced the peak flame temperature, while their chemical effect suppressed the formation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are precursors of soot, through reduced PAH precursor species and a slower PAH growth process.

Kinetic study of the effect of sub-atmospheric conditions on the laminar burning velocity of high C2H6 content natural gas mixtures

Hernando Alexander Yepes et al.

Summary: The study investigated the laminar burning velocity of high C2H6 content fuel mixtures at sub-atmospheric pressure, showing that mixtures M1 and M2 increased by 15.9% and 26.3% at 0.84 atm compared to 1.0 atm. Kinetic analysis indicated that the increase in S-L at sub-atmospheric conditions is mainly caused by the increase in CH3 radical production.

Ignition temperature of combustible liquids in mixtures of air with nitrous oxide

Maria Mitu et al.

Summary: While ignition temperatures of many flammable substances in air and pure oxygen are well known, there is a lack of data on ignition temperatures in nitrous oxide, despite its widespread use as an oxidizer. Recent experiments have shown that ignition temperatures in oxidizer mixtures containing nitrous oxide increase with higher nitrous oxide concentrations.

Effect of diluent gas on propagation and explosion characteristics of hydrogen-rich syngas laminar premixed flame

Guo-Peng Zhang et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the combustion characteristics of a hydrogen-rich syngas premixed flame with different diluents. The results showed that the flame propagation speed was lower under CO2 dilution but had a higher flame acceleration effect, and as the dilution increased, the rate of pressure rise and the maximum combustion explosion pressure gradually decreased.

Effects of water vapor on auto-ignition characteristics and laminar flame speed of methane/air mixture under engine-relevant conditions

Zhipeng Yuan et al.

Summary: This paper numerically simulated the effects of water vapor on the auto-ignition characteristics and laminar flame speed of the methane/air mixture. The results showed that the ignition delay time of the methane/air increased with increasing water vapor ratio, and the laminar flame speed and adiabatic combustion temperature decreased as well.

Chemical effects of carbon dioxide in ethylene, ethanol and DME counter-flow diffusion flames: An experimental reference for the fictitious CO2 flame

Rui Zhao et al.

Summary: The chemical effects of carbon dioxide on flame chemistry were investigated in ethylene, ethanol, and dimethyl-ether (DME) diffusion flames numerically and experimentally. A new experimental strategy was proposed to determine the pure chemical effects. The results showed that CO2 addition decreased the peak flame temperatures and the concentration of CH4, H-2, and C2H2 (except CO). The effects of CO2 on the production pathways of CO and C2H2 were similar in different flames.

Summary: This study conducted combustion tests with a green propellant consisting of N2O and C2H4, analyzing the effects of mixture ratio, chamber pressure, and other parameters on combustion efficiency and heat flux. Mixing hot N2O with C2H4 resulted in the decomposition of C2H4 and the formation of soot, leading to the use of a N2O/C2H6 mixture for combustion tests.

Effect of CO2 Dilution on Methane/Air Flames at Elevated Pressures: An Experimental and Modeling Study

Farha Khan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of CO2 dilution on laminar premixed methane/air flames at elevated pressures. Experimental results show that increasing CO2 dilution ratio decreases the burning velocities of CH4/CO2/air mixtures. The kinetic modeling results suggest that chemical effects are less important at high pressure, with H and OH radical reduction rates significantly reduced under elevated pressure conditions.
