One-step synthesis of dimethyl ether from biomass-derived syngas on CuO-ZnO-Al2O3/HZSM-5 hybrid catalyst: Combination method, synergistic effect, water-gas shift reaction and catalytic performance

Xiaoming Guo et al.

Summary: The effects of different combination methods (granule-mixing, powder-mixing, physical coating and dual-bed fixing) on the physicochemical properties and catalytic performances of CuO-ZnO-Al2O3/HZSM-5 hybrid catalysts for the one-step synthesis of DME from biomass-derived syngas were investigated. The highest CO conversion and DME yield were achieved with the hybrid catalyst prepared by granule-mixing. The synergistic effect between methanol synthesis and methanol dehydration was observed except for the hybrid system using the dual-bed fixing method. The combination method significantly influenced the WGS reaction and the properties of active sites.

Mathematical modeling for bubbling fluidized bed CO-methanation reactor incorporating the effect of circulation and particle flows

Quancong Zhang et al.

Summary: A two-phase model considering gas flow distribution and reaction heat characteristics in a fluidized bed reactor for CO methanation was proposed and validated with experimental data in this study. Results showed that particle flow is more significant than circulation flow, the effect of bubble size is limited in bubbling region, and bed-wall heat transfer has obvious influence in freeboard.

Mathematical correlations in two-phase modeling of fluidized bed adsorbers

Morteza Davarpanah et al.

Summary: Choosing proper formulas for estimating variables is crucial in modeling a fluidized bed using two-phase theory. This study compared different approaches and suggested a broadly-applicable set of formulas for describing the behavior of various countercurrent fluidized bed adsorbers. Proper formula use could significantly enhance the two-phase model performance in accurately replicating a large dataset of fluidized bed adsorption experiments.

Kinetic modeling and reactor design of the direct synthesis of dimethyl ether for CO2 valorization. A review

A. Ateka et al.

Summary: This review discusses the synthesis of dimethyl ether (DME) from CO2 and syngas, highlighting the thermodynamics, catalyst preparation, kinetic modeling, reactor design, and reaction strategies. It provides detailed information on the kinetic models proposed in the literature and their corresponding catalyst and reaction conditions. The article also addresses the issue of catalyst deactivation, quantifies coke deposition using various kinetic models, and explores the limitations imposed by the presence of water in the reaction medium. The advantages and limitations of different reactors and the challenges in implementing the direct CO2 to DME synthesis process are also discussed.

Reduction of bubble coalescence by louver baffles in fluidized bed gasifier

Kiattikhoon Phuakpunk et al.

Summary: This study used computational fluid dynamics to explore a louver baffles arrangement that could reduce bubble coalescence in a bubbling bed gasifier fueled by biomass. The results showed that 10 mm-gap baffles were effective in reducing bubble size and slowing down bubble coalescence, while also providing better gas-solid contact.

Effect of a Baffle on Bubble Distribution in a Bubbling Fluidized Bed

Xuelian Xing et al.

Summary: In this study, the multi-phase Eulerian-Eulerian two-fluid method coupled with the kinetic theory of granular flow was used to investigate the hydrodynamics of particle flows in a lab-scale bubbling fluidized bed. The study aimed to improve the distribution of an injected liquid by enhancing the flow of bubbles entering the spray jet cavity. Results showed that adding a fluxtube to a baffle can enhance bubble flows, while baffles help smooth out variations in gas distribution.
