What does the NRTL model look like? Determination of boundaries for different fluid phase equilibrium regions

Juan A. Labarta et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the characteristics of the nonrandom two-liquids model (NRTL) and investigates its relation with binary interaction parameters and phase equilibria. Empirical equations are established to simulate the trajectories of different miscibility boundaries.

Assessment of the simultaneous regression of liquid-liquid and vapor-liquid equilibria data of binary systems using NRTL and artificial neural networks

O. Del-Mazo-Alvarado et al.

Summary: A numerical analysis on the phase equilibrium modeling performance of the NRTL equation in binary mixtures using different data regression strategies was conducted. A novel approach using an artificial neural network model for the simultaneous correlation of liquid-liquid and vapor-liquid equilibria data was proposed and studied. The results showed that this approach significantly improved the estimation of liquid-liquid equilibrium data and provided a detailed analysis on the calculation performance of homogeneous and heterogeneous azeotropes.

Liquid-Liquid Equilibrium, Solubility, and Critical States in an Acetic Acid-n-Butyl Alcohol-n-Butyl Acetate-Water System at 328.15 K and 101.3 kPa: Topology of Phase Diagrams and NRTL Modeling

Alexander Smirnov et al.

Summary: This study investigates the liquid-liquid equilibrium, solubility, and critical states of the quaternary system through gas chromatography and cloud-point technique. Topological analysis of phase diagrams was conducted, and simulation using a two-liquid model showed good agreement with experimental data. Comparative analysis with binary, ternary, and quaternary mixtures was carried out to discuss the location of critical compositions and construct phase diagrams in 2D and 3D concentration spaces. Features of each phase diagram were also discussed.
