A Double-EKF Orientation Estimator Decoupling Magnetometer Effects on Pitch and Roll Angles

Xiaolong Xu et al.

Summary: This article presents a method for accurate orientation estimation using low-cost inertial and magnetic sensors. The method decouples the effects of magnetometer measurements on pitch and roll estimates by decomposing the orientation into tilt quaternion and heading quaternion. The experiment results show that the proposed method solves the disturbance problem without losing accuracy.

Photometric Visual-Inertial Navigation With Uncertainty-Aware Ensembles

Jae Hyung Jung et al.

Summary: In this article, a visual-inertial navigation system is proposed that minimizes photometric error without explicit data association. By introducing an optimal intensity gradient and utilizing ensembles sampled from state uncertainty, this system can generate correct update directions even in bad initialization points, demonstrating strong robustness to large initial uncertainty.

FAST-LIO: A Fast, Robust LiDAR-Inertial Odometry Package by Tightly-Coupled Iterated Kalman Filter

Wei Xu et al.

Summary: This study introduces a computationally efficient and robust LiDAR-inertial odometry framework for reliable navigation in fast-motion, noisy, or cluttered environments. By presenting a new formula for computing the Kalman gain, the computation load is reduced in the presence of a large number of measurements. The proposed method has been tested in various indoor and outdoor environments, showing reliable real-time navigation results.

Application of Sigma Point Particle Filter Method for Passive State Estimation in Underwater

G. Naga Divya et al.

Summary: Bearings-only tracking (BOT) is crucial in underwater surveillance, but the measurements are complex due to the turbulent underwater environment, requiring the use of nonlinear filtering algorithms instead of traditional linear filters like the Kalman filter. However, the particle filter (PF) commonly used for this purpose faces challenges such as sample degeneracy and impoverishment, leading to the proposal of combining PF with another filter like the unscented Kalman filter for better target state estimation.

INS/GPS Sensor Fusion based on Adaptive Fuzzy EKF with Sensitivity to Disturbances

Danial Sabzevari et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the estimation accuracy of integrating the inertial navigation system with the global positioning system (GPS), utilizing adaptive and robust structures to overcome environmental disturbances and noises. By comparing different algorithms, the results demonstrate the superiority of the adaptive fuzzy extended Kalman filter (AFEKF) in terms of lower estimation error and higher robustness against disturbances and outliers.
