Heterogeneous Evolution of Power System Vulnerability in Cascading Failure Graphs

Shenhao Yang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the physical properties of vulnerability in the propagation of cascading failures in power systems. A new graph evolution model and a transmission expansion planning algorithm are proposed to mitigate cascading failures. Numerical results show that vulnerability evolution in the graph model exhibits heterogeneity and scale-free distribution, and the proposed algorithm is effective in mitigating cascading failures in large power systems.

A Tutorial on Modeling and Analysis of Cascading Failure in Future Power Grids

Dong Liu et al.

Summary: Cascading failures are inevitable in complex power grids, causing significant economic losses. Efforts have been made to model cascading failures for understanding and prevention, with significant achievements in reproducing propagation profiles and power-law distributions. New features in future grids, such as information technologies and power electronics devices, bring profound influences on cascading failure characteristics and present challenges to existing models.
