ISS and integral-ISS of switched systems with nonlinear supply functions

Shenyu Liu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the input-to-state stability (ISS) and integral version (iISS) of switched nonlinear systems with inputs, resets, and possibly unstable subsystems. By utilizing dissipation inequalities, supply functions, and the change in Lyapunov functions at switching instants, a formula relating average dwell-time (ADT) and average activation time (AAT) is derived to ensure the stability of the switched system. Case studies are included to illustrate the results.

Infinite gain margin, contraction and optimality: An LMI-based design

Mattia Giaccagli et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on nonlinear systems composed of a linear term and a nonlinearity satisfying a monotonic or a sector bound condition. Sufficient conditions based on LMIs are presented for the design of a feedback control law with an infinite gain margin property, which makes the closed-loop system contractive. The connection between infinite gain margin contractive feedbacks and optimization problems is analyzed by demonstrating how such control design minimizes a given cost function.

A Contraction Analysis of Primal-Dual Dynamics in Distributed and Time-Varying Implementations

Pedro Cisneros-Velarde et al.

Summary: In this article, we provide a comprehensive analysis of primal-dual dynamics associated with linear equality-constrained optimization problems using contraction analysis. We establish convergence and contracting rate for the standard version of the problem under convexity and strong convexity. Additionally, we use partial contractivity to achieve global exponential convergence for a canonical distributed optimization problem. We also propose a new distributed solver for the least-squares problem with the same convergence guarantees. Furthermore, we exploit the contractive nature of time-varying versions of both centralized and distributed primal-dual dynamics to establish bounds on their tracking error.

Contraction-Based Control of Switched Nonlinear Systems Using Dwell Times and Switched Contraction Metrics

Ryan McCloy et al.

Summary: This letter presents a contraction-based control method for switched nonlinear systems under time varying references and dwell time conditions. The approach studies the differential dynamics of switched subsystems using switched contraction metrics, and uses the properties of the Riemannian energy to determine the incremental stability of the collective dynamics. The result is the formulation of conditions on the switching signal to guarantee contraction of the overall system. Additionally, the letter provides reference-independent synthesis and implementation details of a novel switched contraction-based tracking controller. An illustrative example is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
