Flow rate measurement of oil-gas-water wavy flow through a combined electrical and ultrasonic sensor

Xuewei Shi et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method that combines electrical and ultrasonic sensors to acquire flowing information of water-based dispersed wavy flow, a common horizontal oil-gas-water three-phase flow pattern. A theoretical model is established based on momentum balance for calculating phase flow rates, with the extraction of interfacial velocity and oil velocity achieved through signal processing methods. Dynamic experiments verify the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method for non-intrusive phase flow metering.

Gas-Liquid Flow Behavior Analysis Based on Phase-Amplitude Coupling and ERT

Lifeng Zhang et al.

Summary: This article studies the flow behavior of gas-liquid two-phase flow from the perspective of cross-frequency coupling, and proposes a phase-amplitude coupling method for flow pattern analysis. By using electrical resistance tomography to monitor the flow, decomposing signals into multiple scales with multivariate empirical mode decomposition, and expressing the coupling between low-frequency phase and high-frequency amplitude, the information exchange process in multi-scale space can be studied. Analysis of variance is applied to determine the scales with significant differences in information exchange of different flow patterns, and the data are visualized to describe the detailed flow structures and explore the causes of coupling changes. The evolution process of flow patterns is further researched.

Excitation Strategies for 3-D Electrical Capacitance Tomography Sensors

Jingjing Shen et al.

Summary: The study found that a 3-D ECT sensor with dual-electrode excitation in the opposite position yielded higher mean capacitance and lower standard deviation compared to excitation in the adjacent position. Excitation in different planes can enhance capacitance signal and reduce dynamic range, leading to decreased random errors and improved image quality in 3-D reconstructions. Dual-electrode excitation in planes separated by one plane in opposite positions can result in lower measurement uncertainty and higher image quality.
