Current trends and opportunities in the methodology of electrodermal activity measurement

Christian Tronstad et al.

Summary: Electrodermal activity (EDA) measurement has been transferred from the laboratory to wearable devices, bringing along new applications and opportunities. Challenges remain for the quality of wearable EDA measurement, but ongoing developments in instrumentation, material technology, and data science may shorten the quality gap between wearable EDA and standardized recordings in the laboratory.

Ambulatory Heart Rate Variability Monitoring: Comparisons Between the Empatica E4 Wristband and Holter Electrocardiogram

Elizabeth E. Van Voorhees et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the reliability of HRV readings from the Empatica E4 wristband compared with a Holter monitor over a 24-hour period of simultaneous monitoring. Results indicate that the Empatica E4 has lower reliability compared to the Holter monitor for HRV measurement over time periods of 5 minutes or less.

Comparison of Electrodermal Activity from Multiple Body Locations Based on Standard EDA Indices' Quality and Robustness against Motion Artifact

Md-Billal Hossain et al.

Summary: This study collected EDA signals from different body sites and found high correlation between the signals from fingers and feet. EDA indices computed from the finger and foot EDA showed significant differences in classifying cognitive stress. The foot EDA location was found to be the most robust against motion artifacts among the different body sites.

Bindi: Affective Internet of Things to Combat Gender-Based Violence

Jose A. Miranda et al.

Summary: This article explores the problem of gender-based violence and the use of technology to achieve gender equality. It proposes an autonomous multimodal system called Bindi that utilizes artificial intelligence to automatically identify violent situations and trigger a protection protocol. The solution integrates modern technologies such as the Internet of Bodies, affective computing, and cyber-physical systems. The research evaluates the solution using a newly collected dataset and provides an analysis of multimodal fusion strategies and audio data processing.

Design and Evaluation of an Electrodermal Activity Sensor (EDA) With Adaptive Gain

Antonio Rodrigues Banganho et al.

Summary: Electrodermal activity (EDA) is a physiological signal associated with the sympathetic nervous system, and is widely used. Despite multiple sensor designs, practical hardware limitations persist due to differences in electrode materials, sweat gland density, and skin electrical properties. This article introduces a new circuit for EDA measurement with adaptive gain control, showing comparable results to a reference sensor with a mean correlation coefficient of 0.967.
