A modified Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (MFDFA) approach for multifractal analysis of precipitation

Jorge Luis Morales Martinez et al.

Summary: A new method called Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis with Polynomial and Trigonometric functions (MFDFAPT) is proposed in this study to better detect and model hidden local trends in time series. Through extensive numerical experiments, MFDFAPT shows superior performance in estimating Hurst index compared to traditional methods, and accurately determines scalar behavior in both stationary and non-stationary series.

Displacement estimation from measured acceleration for fixed offshore structures

Fushun Liu et al.

Summary: A new non-integration displacement reconstruction method is proposed in this paper for offshore structures, allowing for accurate reconstruction of displacements and avoiding the common drift issue experienced by traditional methods. The numerical example and physical experiments conducted show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method in accurately estimating velocities and displacements even in the presence of noise. The experimental results from testing a steel beam fixed on a shaking table and a four-leg offshore platform further confirm the feasibility and correctness of the proposed method in ocean engineering applications.

Exploring scraping therapy: Contemporary views on an ancient healing - A review

Eric Chun Pu Chu et al.

Summary: Gua sha is a traditional healing technique that aims to create petechiae on the skin for a believed therapeutic benefit. The mechanisms underlying Gua Sha have not been empirically established, but contemporary scientific research can explain some events of traditional therapies. It is assumed that Gua Sha therapy can serve as a mechanical signal to enhance the immune surveillance function of the skin during the natural resolving of the petechiae, resulting in therapeutic benefits.
