Frontotemporal Dementia and Glucose Metabolism

Liam Rodney Garrett et al.

Summary: Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a common type of early onset dementia characterized by antero-temporal degeneration in the brain. It has been found that FTD patients often have dysregulated glucose metabolism, which might play a critical role in the pathophysiology of FTD. However, the exact relationship between glucose metabolism and FTD remains largely unexplored. Understanding the link between FTD and glucose metabolism could provide valuable insights into the disease and facilitate the development of new therapeutics.

Metabolic brain pattern in dementia with Lewy bodies: Relationship to Alzheimer?s disease topography

Matej Perovnik et al.

Summary: The study aimed to identify a DLB-related pattern (DLBRP) and study its relationship with other metabolic brain patterns, exploring its diagnostic and prognostic value in dementia with Lewy bodies. Results showed that DLBRP shared similarities with ADRP and PDRP, and correlated with cognitive impairment and survival time in patients.

Cognition-Related Functional Topographies in Parkinson's Disease: Localized Loss of the Ventral Default Mode Network

Katharina A. Schindlbeck et al.

Summary: Cognitive dysfunction in Parkinson's disease is associated with increased expression of the PD cognition-related pattern (PDCP) and loss of the normal default mode network (DMN). The PDCP is a reproducible cognition-related network that is topographically distinct from the normal DMN.

The default mode network in cognition: a topographical perspective

Jonathan Smallwood et al.

Summary: The default mode network (DMN) consists of widely distributed brain regions in the parietal, temporal, and frontal cortex, showing reduced activity during attention-demanding tasks and increased activity during complex cognition tasks. DMN is located in regions furthest away from sensory and motor systems in the cortex. Leveraging knowledge of the topographic characteristics of DMN can enhance understanding of its contribution to cognition and behavior.

Partial volume correction analysis for 11C-UCB-J PET studies of Alzheimer's disease

Yihuan Lu et al.

Summary: The purpose of the study is to reveal SV2A changes between Alzheimer's disease patients and cognitive normal participants using partial volume correction algorithms. In the hippocampus region, the IY algorithm increased the significance of group differences. MG algorithm may increase GM binding values to a greater extent. The results suggest that PVC is important for adjusting significant volume reduction.

Global Prevalence of Young-Onset Dementia A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Stevie Hendriks et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis found an age-standardized prevalence of YOD of 119.0 per 100,000 population, although estimates of the prevalence in low-income countries and younger age ranges remain scarce. These results should help policy makers organize sufficient health care for this subgroup of individuals with dementia.

The role of the medial prefrontal cortex in cognition, ageing and dementia

Dan D. Jobson et al.

Summary: Humans rely on various cognitive skills regulated by the prefrontal cortex for executive functions. The medial prefrontal cortex plays a crucial role in regulating cognitive functions and is interconnected with subcortical regions. Dysfunction in these circuits has been implicated in neurocognitive disorders. Studies suggest that changes in medial prefrontal cortex connectivity may serve as potential biomarkers for ageing-related disorders like dementia.
