Uncertainty quantification of landslide runout motion considering soil interdependent anisotropy and fabric orientation

Guotao Ma et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of soil interdependent anisotropy and fabric orientation on landslide runout motions, finding that the rotation of soil layer orientation significantly affects the runout motion. The study highlights the importance of considering the orientation of soil stratification in assessing the post-failure behavior of a landslide.

Rockhead profile simulation using an improved generation method of conditional random field

Liang Han et al.

Summary: In this study, the conditional random field (CRF) was improved to simulate rockhead profiles. With the assistance of Bayesian theory, the proposed method utilizes measurement data and prior information to handle uncertainty. The method provides reasonable estimations of rockhead depth at various locations and reduces subjectivity in determining prior mean.

Stochastic Assessment of Landslide Influence Zone by Material Point Method and Generalized Geotechnical Random Field Theory

Guotao Ma et al.

Summary: A probabilistic framework is proposed in this paper to evaluate landslide hazard zoning by considering the effects of heterogeneous soil properties. The material point method is used to simulate large deformations during landslide failure. Spatial variation in soil shear strength parameters is modeled using random fields and discretized with the Cholesky matrix decomposition method. The framework also quantitatively evaluates the level of disaster for facilities or structures located near slopes.

Effects of spatial autocorrelation structure for friction angle on the runout distance in heterogeneous sand collapse

Guotao Ma et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a stochastic method for analyzing the runout distance of sand collapse considering the spatial variability of shear strength. The method integrates random field theory and generalized interpolation material point method, and uses a Monte-Carlo simulation basis. The results show that deterministic analysis may underestimate the runout distance, while a heterogeneous model provides more realistic results. The uncertainty of the runout distance increases with the increase in the coefficient of variation of friction angle.

B-PINNs: Bayesian physics-informed neural networks for forward and inverse PDE problems with noisy data

Liu Yang et al.

Summary: The paper introduces a Bayesian physics-informed neural network (B-PINN) for solving nonlinear problems, and conducts experimental comparisons on posterior estimation methods and uncertainty quantification. The KL model is as accurate and faster than BNN, but cannot be applied to high-dimensional problems.

Summary: This paper presents analytical expressions for Bayesian analysis of hierarchical Gaussian random fields, discussing their application to non-Gaussian random fields and characteristic value estimation for material parameters. The method is illustrated on two spatial data sets of concrete and soil strength parameters.
