Timescale-dependent AMOC-AMO relationship in an earth system model of intermediate complexity

Hyo-Jeong Kim et al.

Summary: The relationship between AMO and AMOC varies on inter-decadal and multi-decadal timescales. On the inter-decadal timescale, AMO and AMOC establish a self-sustaining oscillatory mode, while on the multi-decadal timescale, they are almost in phase.

Multidecadal climate oscillations during the past millennium driven by volcanic forcing

Michael E. Mann et al.

Summary: Research suggests that the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation may actually be influenced by competing effects of anthropogenic greenhouse gases and sulfate aerosols, rather than being an internal climate oscillation. By comparing climate model simulations and paleoclimate data, it is concluded that the apparent multidecadal oscillations are likely artifacts of volcanic activity during the preindustrial era, projecting onto the 50- to 70-year frequency band. Thus, there is currently no compelling evidence for internal multidecadal oscillations in the climate system.

Plume spreading test case for coastal ocean models

Vera Fofonova et al.

Summary: The study introduces a complex test case of river plume spreading for evaluating numerical methods in coastal ocean modeling. The results indicate that the ability of models to provide accurate numerical solutions for reproducing nonlinear processes and frontal zone dynamics is crucial and depends more on the type of advection scheme than on the model discretization or computational grid.
