Summary: This study reveals the geochemical control on the nature of tectomanganates formed from layered precursors, providing insights into the formation of Mn oxides in natural environments. Layered and tunnel Mn oxides have a pivotal influence on the geochemical cycling of transition metals, including Co, and formation of tectomanganates with smaller tunnel sizes under low pH conditions.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the intrinsic instability of an electrochemical interface can be turned from an obstacle into an advantage in aqueous zinc-ion batteries, where manganese oxide (MnO2) shows considerable dissolution even in electrolyte containing Mn2+ salt. Balancing with redeposition can alleviate the harmful impact of dissolution on performance and alter the trajectory of the active phase.

Summary: The study compared Ox, CA, and citrate extractions on subsoils with element accumulation and various minerals. Extraction by Ox showed larger contents of Al, Fe, and Mn compared to CA, except for allophane. Citrate extraction revealed the potential contribution of organic forms to Al and Fe extraction, suggesting the combination of Ox and CA extraction with citrate extraction for better estimation of poorly crystalline pedogenic Al and Fe species. The appropriateness of oxalate-extraction data for species identification and mineral quantification was questioned based on the results.
