Effects of Triazole Fungicides on Soil Microbiota and on the Activities of Enzymes Found in Soil: A Review

Diana Larisa Roman et al.

Summary: Research shows that the effects of triazole fungicides are dose-dependent, with high doses strongly impacting the structure of microbial communities in soil and typically decreasing both the population of soil microbes and the activities of enzymes in the soil.

Responses of soil enzyme activity and soil organic carbon stability over time after cropland abandonment in different vegetation zones of the Loess Plateau of China

Hongwei Xu et al.

Summary: The study showed that after cropland abandonment, there are significant differences in soil enzyme activity, SOC stability, and driving factors in different vegetation zones. In steppe and forest-steppe zones, soil enzyme activity increased while SOC stability decreased with recovery time; whereas in the forest zone, both parameters remained relatively stable. The changes in soil enzyme activity and SOC stability were closely related to vegetation diversity, coverage, and soil nutrient levels in different recovery sites.

Functional rarity and evenness are key facets of biodiversity to boost multifunctionality

Yoann Le Bagousse-Pinguet et al.

Summary: The study shows that three dimensions of functional diversity can explain up to 66% of variations in multifunctionality, with increasing evenness among functionally dissimilar species key to promoting higher multifunctionality. Managing dispersion, evenness, and rarity in multispecies assemblages could be used to maximize multifunctionality independently of biome or identity of dominant species.
