The role of H2O in structural nitrogen migration during coal devolatilization under oxy-steam combustion conditions

Shuang Yue et al.

Summary: Oxy-steam combustion is a promising technology for reducing CO2 emissions. This study investigated the transformation and release of nitrogen under oxy-steam conditions, revealing that char prepared in a N-2/H2O atmosphere has higher nitrogen content compared to a N-2 atmosphere. The presence of OH radicals inhibits the transformation of N-Q to N-6 and promotes the conversion of N-6 to N-5, ultimately leading to lower emissions of HCN and NH3 under N-2/H2O conditions.

Modeling of single-particle char combustion under O2/H2O conditions: Effects of temperature and steam concentration

Kun Chen et al.

Summary: The study found through numerical simulations that increasing H2O concentration reduces the average temperature of char particles, and O2 consumption in the boundary layer accounts for 50% of the total O2 consumption. Higher temperatures and H2O concentrations enhance competition for O2 by homogeneous reactions.

Pressurized oxy-fuel combustion of a char particle in the fluidized bed combustor

Lin Li et al.

Summary: In this study, experimental single char combustion was conducted in a visualized pressurized FB combustor, followed by the development of an experimentally verified particle-scale char combustion model. The results showed that char conversion was accelerated with the increase of pressure, mainly due to high oxygen diffusion and char gasification. Gasification played an important role in pressurized oxy-fuel combustion, especially under high oxygen concentration and bed temperature, enhancing char oxidation rate and gasification rate and shortening burnout time. Additionally, a higher fluidization number improved mass and heat transfer, reducing burnout time and peak temperature of char particle.
