Optimising microscopic spray characteristics and particle emissions in a dual-injection spark ignition (SI) engine by changing GDI injection pressure

Xiang Li et al.

Summary: This paper comprehensively analyzes the effects of fuel injection pressure on microscopic spray characteristics and particle emissions in dual-injection spark ignition engines fueled with gasoline. The study shows that increasing injection pressure leads to higher droplet velocity and more small droplets, resulting in reduced particle number concentration.

Study on combustion and emissions of a hydrous ethanol/gasoline dual fuel engine with combined injection

Decheng Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different water ratios in hydrous ethanol on combustion and emissions of hydrous ethanol-gasoline. The results showed that hydrous ethanol prolongs flame development and propagation duration, decreases Tmax and Pmax, and improves torque and brake thermal efficiency. Increasing water content in gasoline/hydrous ethanol dual fuel also leads to higher HC emissions but lower CO and NOx emissions, as well as smaller particle size.

Investigation on ethanol-glycerol blend combustion in the internal combustion sparkignited engine. Engine performance and exhaust emissions

Stanislaw Szwaja et al.

Summary: This paper presents the investigation results on a new type of renewable fuel for automotive and power industry. The ethanol-glycerol blend at the ratio of 3:1 is found to be a feasible substitute for gasoline or ethanol in internal combustion engines, with comparable toxic emissions levels and less than 3% deterioration in engine performance.

Impacts of methanol fuel on vehicular emissions: A review

Chung Song Ho et al.

Summary: The transport sector is a major energy consumer and contributor to urban air pollution. One feasible solution to address the growing energy demand and environmental pollution is the substitution of cleaner fuels. Methanol is recognized as a good alternative to gasoline due to its combustion performance. However, studies on the effects of methanol blending on exhaust emissions have produced inconsistent conclusions. This review summarizes the characteristics of emissions from methanol-gasoline blends and pure methanol fuel, and examines the mechanisms by which methanol-blended fuel influences pollutant emissions.

Exploring the potential benefits of Ethanol Direct Injection (EDI) timing and pressure on particulate emission characteristics in a Dual-Fuel Spark Ignition (DFSI) engine

Xiang Li et al.

Summary: This paper systematically explores the potential benefits of Ethanol Direct Injection (EDI) timing and pressure on particulate emission characteristics in a Dual-Fuel Spark Ignition (DFSI) engine. The experimental results demonstrate that delaying EDI timing and increasing EDI pressure can significantly reduce both the number and mass concentration of particulate matter, as well as alter the size distribution of particles. The effect of EDI pressure on reducing particulate number is more prominent.

Laser induced fluorescence investigation on deposited fuel film from spray impingement on viscous film over a solid wall

Chenxi Wang et al.

Summary: This study quantitatively investigated deposited fuel film characteristics under dry and viscous surface using the laser induced fluorescence (LIF) method. Results showed that viscous film could buffer and inhibit the deposition of spray fuel, whereas with increasing injection mass, the characteristics of deposited film on dry surface deteriorated rapidly.

Breakup characteristics of high speed liquid jets from a single-hole injector

Shengqi Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigated spray characteristics from a single-hole gasoline direct injection injector with nozzle diameters of 0.14 mm and 0.2 mm. The Naber and Siebers equation was found to be the most suitable for predicting spray penetration, and the spray penetration can be divided into two regions based on the breakup point. Additionally, a linear relationship was identified between the initial spray tip velocity and fuel pressure.
