Fluid Behavior in Clay-Hosted Nanopores with Varying Salinity: Insights into Molecular Dynamics

Hao Xiong et al.

Summary: Clay surfaces have strong interactions with dissolved ions in brines and injected water. This study investigates fluid distributions in clay pores when exposed to oil and brine with varying salinities using a molecular dynamics approach. The results show that high salinities hinder diffusion of oil molecules due to ionic aggregates, while low salinities affect oil mobility through water bridges. Intermediate salinities promote the highest oil mobility.

Effect of water behaviour on the oil transport in illite nanopores: Insights from a molecular dynamics study

Hao Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the behavior of oil/water mixtures in a hydrophilic illite nanopore using molecular dynamics simulations. The results show that the presence of illite has a strong impact on both oil distribution and water adsorption, with the formation of water-wrapped oil droplets and water bridges affecting the mixture behavior in the pore.

Nanopore Surfaces Control the Shale Gas Adsorption via Roughness and Layer-Accumulated Adsorption Potential: A Molecular Dynamics Study

Kai Gao et al.

Summary: The study found that the methane adsorption on rough graphite surfaces with different tilt angles has irregular density profiles and varying adsorption strength. The average adsorption density of methane initially increases and then decreases with increasing tilt angle, reaching a maximum at 5 degrees. The findings suggest that surface roughness and layer-accumulated adsorption potential play key roles in determining methane adsorption behavior.

Molecular insight of flow property for gas-water mixture (CO2/CH4-H2O) in shale organic matrix

Lu Zhang et al.

Summary: Gas-water two-phase flow mechanism of CO2/CH4 in moist nanoporous media is studied in this research. Water molecules tend to form clusters to replace gas molecules at the surface and center region. An analytical theoretical slip model is established to quantify the effective viscosity and slip length of the binary mixtures system.
