Influence of burner geometry on atomization of coal water slurry in an entrained-flow gasifier

Xiaoxiang Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of burner geometry on the atomization characteristics of CWS in a gasifier, finding that an increase in burner outlet area ratio leads to changes in the SMD of CWS droplets and particle velocity turbulence.

Experimental study of particle evolution characteristics below the burner plane in an impinging entrained-flow gasifier

Xiaoxiang Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, the evolution characteristics of particles below the burner plane of a bench-scale opposed multi-burner (OMB) coal-water slurry (CWS) impinging entrained-flow gasifier were investigated using visualization imaging systems. Image post-processing algorithms and statistical methods were used to analyze particle velocity, size distribution, spatial distribution, volatile flame area, and shape. The results showed that the velocity of particles in the impinging-flow zone was slightly greater than that in the recirculation-flow zone, and the particle size and concentration in the impinging-flow zone were smaller compared to those in the recirculation-flow zone. The occurrence frequency of particles in the impinging-flow zone increased as they moved downward along the axial direction of the gasifier.

Numerical simulation of gasification of a shrinking char particle in supercritical water

Chao Fan et al.

Summary: This study developed a 2D transient CFD-based model to investigate the conversion of char particles in supercritical water. The results showed that the conversion of char particles was restricted by particle size and temperature, and convection promoted the conversion by enhancing heat and mass transfer while causing irregular particle shape development.

Particle motion and evolution characteristics in the impinging-flow zone of an impinging entrained-flow gasifier

Hantao Lu et al.

Summary: The characteristics of coal particles in the entrained-flow gasifier were studied in this research. The results show that the number of small particles increases with the rise of O/C ratio, and particle movement is influenced by aerodynamic force and gravity. Different ignition/oxidation behaviors were described and statistically distributed based on particle size. A time-scale particle evolution model was established.

Reaction behaviors of a single coal char particle affected by oxygen and steam under oxy-fuel combustion

Zewu Zhang et al.

Summary: The addition of steam promotes the formation of H2, while the increase in oxygen content enhances the generation of CO. The sensitivity of oxygen and steam content varies for different reactions, with H2O playing a crucial role in some reactions. The competition between different reactions is affected by changes in steam concentration.
