Study on SO2 Poisoning Mechanism of CO Catalytic Oxidation Reaction on Copper-Cerium Catalyst

Zhiyu Li et al.

Summary: The CuO-CeO2 (Cu-Ce) catalyst prepared by a sol-gel method exhibited different stabilities under sulfur-containing and sulfur-free conditions in the CO catalytic oxidation reaction. The accumulation of cerium sulfate on the catalyst led to the deactivation of the catalyst by covering its active sites.

Synergistic effects between highly dispersed CuOx and the surface Cu-[Ox]-Ce structure on the catalysis of benzene combustion

Jiancai Hou et al.

Summary: Cu-Ce mixed oxides with different Cu contents were synthesized through a sol-gel method, and their effect on benzene combustion catalysis was evaluated. The results showed a strong synergistic effect between CuO and CeO2, with CuOx clusters and the Cu-[O-x]-Ce structure identified as the main active sites and bridge for oxygen transfer.

M (M = Mn, Co, Cu)-CeO2 catalysts to enhance their CO catalytic oxidation at a low temperature: Synergistic effects of the interaction between Ce3+-Mx+-Ce4+and the oxygen vacancy defects

Mingjing Xiao et al.

Summary: In this study, CeO2-based catalysts doped with transition metals Mn, Co, and Cu were prepared using a facile solution combustion method. Various characterizations and testing methods were employed to analyze the effects of different doping elements and molar ratios on the catalyst's crystal structure, surface morphology, valence state of surface elements, specific surface area, and reduction temperature. The results showed that the Mn-CeO2 catalyst with 20% molar amount exhibited excellent catalytic performance, achieving a low T50% of CO of 70°C and remaining above 90% CO conversion efficiency after 20 hours of continuous catalysis. When the relative humidity reached 70%, the CO conversion remained above 80%. The test characterization results revealed that the synergy between high-valence and low-valence ions on the catalyst surface, forming Ce3+-Mx+-Ce4+ (M = Mn, Co, Cu), resulted in a redox equilibrium reaction and an increased number of active oxygen on the catalyst surface, thus enhancing the catalytic oxidation activity and conversion efficiency of M(M = Mn, Co, and Cu)-CeO2 catalysts for low-temperature CO catalytic oxidation.

One step closer to the low-temperature CO oxidation over non-noble CuO/CeO2 nanocatalyst: The effect of CuO loading

Thanh Son Cam et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of CuO/CeO2 nanocomposite catalysts were synthesized using the urea-nitrate combustion method, with different CuO loadings. The CuO loading significantly influenced the phase composition, crystallite size, specific surface area, and catalytic performance of the catalysts. Among them, CuO/CeO2-20 catalyst showed high catalytic activity and stability in CO oxidation at low reaction temperature. The synergistic effect of redox pairs and oxygen vacancies contributed to the enhanced catalytic activity of CuO/CeO2-20 catalyst. Further research on doping oxides of other rare-earth and transition metals may further improve the catalytic performance of CuO/CeO2-20 sample.
