Petroleum viscosity modeling using least squares and ANN methods

Dicho Stratiev et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the accuracy of eight empirical regression methods for predicting crude oil viscosity and developed a new nonlinear regression model and an artificial neural network (ANN) model for viscosity prediction. The results showed that the combination of these two models improved the accuracy of viscosity prediction for the crude oils.

Accurate prediction of the viscosity of light crude oils using one-parameter friction theory: Effect of crude oil characterization methods and property correlations

Yash Khemka et al.

Summary: The study uses different methods to model the viscosity of light crude oils, finding that SARA-based methods predict viscosity with higher accuracy than the SCN method. Despite using the simpler PR EoS with SARA method, viscosity predictions are as good as those obtained using the advanced PC-SAFT EoS.

Helmholtz Scaling: An Alternative Approach to Calculate Viscosity with the PCP-SAFT Equation of State

Cliff I. S. Goncalves et al.

Summary: The A-scaling method, based on the Rosenfeld scaling theory, provides an alternative approach to calculate viscosity for pure components and mixtures under various conditions with potential to be coupled with different equations of state. Experimental results show that A-scaling generally has lower average absolute deviations in predicting viscosity for both pure substances and mixtures compared to entropy scaling.

Development of a generalized model for predicting the composition of homologous groups derived from molecular type analyses to characterize petroleum fractions

Pouya Hosseinifar et al.

Summary: Two best-known molecular type analyses, PNA and SAP methods, have been generalized into a new model for predicting PNA and SAP content of petroleum fractions using input parameters such as Tb, SG, and RI. The model was validated against experimental data and showed good conformity, with an AAD of 2.5% for predicting PNA and SAP compositions. Furthermore, the model’s sensitivity analysis demonstrated that it is less affected by input errors compared to other existing methods, highlighting its efficiency for characterizing reservoir fluids.
