Synergistic interactions between biochar reacted with steam and CO2 originating from a diffusion reaction state and intrinsic ash

Guozhang Chang et al.

Summary: The study found that the chemical reaction state and intrinsic ash are the main reasons for the three interaction effects between biochar and CO2/H2O(g). An inhibitive effect occurred during the chemical reaction regime, while a transition from independent effect to a competitive effect was observed under the diffusion reaction regime. The creation of micropores suitable for the reaction of biochar with CO2 by H2O(g) in the presence of Ca species led to a synergistic effect between the two reactions.

Identifying the contribution of rich-CO2/H2O gasification on the char conversion in typical atmospheres of chemical looping with oxygen uncoupling via single particle simulation

Chuanbao Zheng et al.

Summary: This study used single particle simulation to investigate the contribution of rich-CO2/H2O gasification reactions to char conversion in chemical looping with oxygen uncoupling (CLOU). The results show that the gasification reactions occurring in the inner core of the char particle hardly influence the oxidation reaction dominating the external layer, and the overall contribution of gasification reactions on the char conversion ranges from 1 to 20% in CLOU conditions.

Effect of CO2 and H2O on Char Properties. Part 3: Semi-Char from Continuous Sampling in a Microfluidized Bed

Zehua Li et al.

Summary: This study reported a novel microfluidized bed reactor combined with a solid char particle online sampling system to investigate the effect of CO2/H2O on semi-char properties and reactivity. The results showed that the activation energy of the semi-char increases during oxy-steam combustion, and the reactivity of the semi-char is higher than that of the original coal char in the early combustion stage, with H2O having a greater influence on semi-char reactivity compared to CO2.

Influence of pressure on the gasification kinetics of two high-temperature beech wood chars with CO2, H2O and its mixture

Christoph Schneider et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of CO2, H2O partial pressure, and absolute pressure on the gasification kinetics of wood chars through experimental data and modeling. The results show that chars produced under different conditions exhibit varied reactivity towards CO2 and H2O. Increasing CO2 partial pressure during gasification in mixed atmospheres leads to higher reactivity for both chars.

Effects of CO2 and H2O on coal pyrolysis with the ultrafast heating rate in a concentrating photothermal reactor

Chi Huanying et al.

Summary: The novel photothermal reactor with ultrafast heating rate was developed to study the effects of CO2 and H2O on coal pyrolysis for oxy-fuel combustion. It was found that CO2 promoted coal pyrolysis at a 50% concentration but inhibited it at 70%, while H2O added to 30% CO2 had a continuous positive role in the pyrolysis process.
