Small (<5 nm), Clean, and Well-Structured Cubic Platinum Nanoparticles: Synthesis and Electrochemical Characterization

Rodolfo M. Antoniassi et al.

Summary: By controlling the shape, metal nanoparticles can be significantly improved for electrocatalysis, but overcoming limitations from large particle size is necessary for practical applications, where nanoparticles should be smaller than 5 nm. Researchers synthesized 3-5 nm cubic Pt nanoparticles with about 40% preferential {100} structure on the surface.

Selective palladium nanoparticles-catalyzed hydrogenolysis of industrially targeted epoxides in water

Marion Duval et al.

Summary: Palladium nanoparticles with core sizes of approximately 2.5 nm were synthesized by chemical reduction and found to be efficient for the selective hydrogenolysis of various aromatic and aliphatic epoxides in water. The study also identified the most suitable capping agents and reaction conditions for different industrial substrates, leading to the successful hydrogenation of 7,8-epoxy-2-methoxy-2,6-dimethyloctane into Florsantol (R) at a multigram scale.

Surfactant Removal for Colloidal Nanocrystal Catalysts Mediated by N-Heterocyclic Carbenes

Perrin Godbold et al.

Summary: The removal of surfactants from colloidal synthesized nanocrystals via ligand exchange with N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) followed by protonation of the NHC ligands in acid efficiently cleans the nanocrystals' surface while preserving their uniform morphology and structure for catalysis. This surface activation strategy showed significantly improved catalytic activities for monodisperse Pt, Pd, and Au nanocrystals, surpassing other cleaning methods, as demonstrated in glycerol oxidation and CO2 reduction electrochemical reactions. This work highlights a new surface activation strategy that enables the efficient use of well-defined nanocrystal libraries for catalysis and other applications prepared by colloidal chemistry.

Palladium-Catalyzed Dual Coupling Reaction of 2-Iodobiphenyls with o-Bromoanilines through C-H Activation: An Approach for the Synthesis of Tribenzo[b,d,f]azepines

Gang Cheng et al.

Summary: A novel and straightforward approach for the synthesis of tribenzo[b,d,f]azepines has been developed from 2-iodobiphenyls and 2-bromoanilines. A wide range of products were obtained via a cascade intermolecular palladium-catalyzed C-H activation/dual coupling reaction, with C,C-palladacycles likely being the reaction intermediates.

Influence of Stabilizers on the Performance of Au/TiO2 Catalysts for CO Oxidation

Nating Yang et al.

Summary: Stabilizers play a crucial role in synthesizing nanocrystals with well-defined morphologies and size distributions, but different stabilizers can significantly affect the catalytic activity of supported metal nanoparticles. The interaction between stabilizers and metal species may influence the electronic properties of the catalyst, leading to differences in catalytic performance.
