Construction and derivation of a series of skeletal chemical mechanisms for n-alkanes with uniform and decoupling structure based on reaction rate rules

Yachao Chang et al.

Summary: A systematic method is proposed in this work to construct skeletal mechanisms for fuels with a similar molecular structure but different size as that of the reference fuel, by developing a skeletal mechanism for the reference fuel and extrapolating a set of skeletal mechanisms with a uniform structure. Extensive validations have shown satisfactory predictions for n-alkanes, demonstrating the potential of the present method for applications with other fuels.

Ammonia and ammonia/hydrogen blends oxidation in a jet-stirred reactor: Experimental and numerical study

Ksenia N. Osipova et al.

Summary: The study focuses on experimental data of ammonia and ammonia/hydrogen blends oxidation, revealing that the addition of hydrogen lowers the onset temperature of ammonia oxidation by 250 K. A chemical kinetic model indicates that hydrogen presence increases concentrations of H, O, and OH radicals, forming at lower temperatures, while changes in equivalence ratio have minimal effect on the temperature range of ammonia conversion.

Effects of ammonia energy fraction and diesel injection timing on combustion and emissions of an ammonia/diesel dual-fuel engine

Amin Yousefi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the feasibility of an ammonia/diesel dual-fuel engine in reducing greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining diesel-like efficiency. Results show that increasing the ammonia energy fraction reduces nitrogen oxide emissions but increases nitrous oxide emissions, resulting in higher overall greenhouse gas emissions compared to diesel-only combustion. Advancing the start of diesel injection helps reduce nitrous oxide and overall greenhouse gas emissions while achieving diesel-like thermal efficiency.

A study on split diesel injection on thermal efficiency and emissions of an ammonia/diesel dual-fuel engine

Amin Yousefi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of split diesel injection strategy on an ammonia/diesel dual-fuel engine under medium load conditions. Results show that the use of split diesel injection strategy increases the thermal efficiency and reduces the unburned ammonia emissions. Two optimized split diesel injection strategies are suggested to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while improving combustion efficiency, although they result in higher nitrogen oxides emissions.

Structure and Laminar Flame Speed of an Ammonia/Methane/Air Premixed Flame under Varying Pressure and Equivalence Ratio

Rodolfo C. Rocha et al.

Summary: This paper presents a study on premixed laminar ammonia/methane/air flames through experiments and numerical simulations. The research aims to understand flame structures and NO formation, as well as determine the laminar flame speed under various conditions. The findings reveal the effects of pressure, equivalence ratio, and ammonia fraction in the fuel on flame characteristics and NO emissions.

Combustion chemistry of ammonia/hydrogen mixtures: Jet-stirred reactor measurements and comprehensive kinetic modeling

Xiaoyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the oxidation of ammonia/hydrogen mixtures at intermediate temperatures using experimental and modeling approaches. The results show that hydrogen blending enhances the oxidation reactivity of ammonia, leading to increased OH radical production and accelerated ammonia consumption. Non-monotonous trends in NOx formation are observed at 99% conversion of ammonia, influenced by the competition between dilution and chemical effects of hydrogen addition.

On the implications of nitromethane - NOx chemistry interactions for combustion processes

Krishna Prasad Shrestha et al.

Summary: This work investigates in detail the CH3NO2 chemistry effect on fuel-NO interactions for methane and n-heptane fuels, revealing that CH3NO2 kinetics delay the reactivity in the low temperature range and explaining the delayed ignition effect of NO for n-heptane. Additionally, the roaming mediated dissociation channel of CH3NO2 is a significant reaction pathway in its consumption process.
