Surface grafting of silica nanoparticles using 3-aminopropyl (triethoxysilane) to improve the CO2 absorption and enhance the gas consumption during the CO2 hydrate formation

Sina Eslami et al.

Summary: In this study, the surface of silica nanoparticles is modified using an organosilane to increase the CO2 storage capacity of gas hydrate. The surface-grafted nanosilica leads to more CO2 consumption compared to APTES and nanosilica for all concentrations, with the maximum CO2 storage achieved at a mass fraction of 0.2%. The surface-grafted nanosilica improves CO2 storage by about 42.6% compared to pure water and 35% compared to silica nanoparticles.
