Numerical simulation of bi-component fuel droplet evaporation using Level Set method

Hiroki Muramatsu et al.

Summary: In this study, the evaporation of binary-component fuel droplets was simulated using the Eulerian framework with an extended evaporation model. The results showed a good agreement with experimental data, confirming the capability of the numerical framework to capture the evaporation phenomenon. Parametric simulations were also performed to investigate the influences of different initial compositions and ambient temperatures on the evaporation characteristics of the droplets.

Progress in experimental investigations on evaporation characteristics of a fuel droplet

Zhaowen Wang et al.

Summary: This paper provides a systematic review on the droplet evaporation characteristics of different fuels. It introduces experimental methods and mechanisms of droplet evaporation. The study finds that the evaporation of droplets is influenced by various factors such as composition, concentration, and the addition of nanoparticles. Future research should focus on advanced experimental and numerical methods, and the integration of droplet evaporation with spray and combustion processes.

Effects of nanoparticle concentration and peclet number on nanofluid droplet evaporation behavior

Jorge A. Ahumada-Lazo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of initial droplet diameter, initial particle mass fraction, and Peclet number on the evaporation characteristics of droplets containing insoluble nanoparticles. The study reveals the time-dependent phenomena of droplet size, evaporation efficiency, and shell formation parameters. It is found that the evaporation behavior of droplets containing insoluble nanoparticles is independent of initial droplet diameter but strongly influenced by the product of Peclet number and particle mass fraction.

Experimental study on the micro-explosion characteristics of biodiesel/1-pentanol and biodiesel/methanol blended droplets

Kai Han et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of different 1-pentanol addition ratios on the micro-explosion characteristics of blended droplets. The results showed that the micro-explosion number and total micro-explosion intensity reached the maximum when the 1-pentanol volume content was 50%. Compared with biodiesel/1-pentanol blended droplets, biodiesel/methanol ones had better micro-explosion characteristics and shorter droplet lifetime.

A new shift mechanism for micro-explosion of water-diesel emulsion droplets at different ambient temperatures

Zhaowen Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the evaporation characteristics of water emulsified diesel droplets at different ambient temperatures using droplet suspension technology. The results showed that the evaporation process mainly consisted of three stages and was significantly influenced by the ambient temperature. Additionally, the study proposed a new mechanism of micro-explosion shift by correlating bubble formation and micro-explosion in water emulsified diesel droplets.

Influence of Nanoparticles on the Evaporation of a Nanodroplet from Solid Substrates: An Experimental and Molecular Dynamics Investigation

V. Arun Kumar et al.

Summary: Experimental and molecular dynamic simulations were used to study the evaporative behavior of liquid droplets in the presence of nanoparticles. It was found that droplets with higher density nanoparticles exhibit pinned behavior and promote pattern formation during evaporation. The simulations also suggest that higher nanoparticle-liquid interaction strengths lead to a delay in evaporation while experiencing higher heat flux on the substrate.

Revisiting D2-law for the evaporation of dilute droplets

F. Dalla Barba et al.

Summary: In this letter, a revision of the classical D-2-law is proposed to accurately determine droplet evaporation rate in dilute conditions. The proposed model was tested against data from direct numerical simulations, showing excellent agreement for predicted droplet evaporation time in dilute turbulent jet-sprays.

Analysis of surface tension for nano-fuels containing disparate types of suspended nanoparticles

Deqing Mei et al.

Summary: Nano-fuel, with higher surface tension compared to diesel, is significantly influenced by mass concentration and particle size, while the surface tension decreases linearly with temperature increasing. Among CNT, CeO2, and Co3O4 nano-fuels, CNT nano-fuels exhibit the highest surface tension.
