Effects analysis on the catalytic combustion and heat transfer performance enhancement of a non-premixed hydrogen/air micro combustor

Jiaqiang E et al.

Summary: The study shows that in the catalytic combustor, homogeneous reactions are significantly weakened, resulting in higher and more uniform outer wall temperatures, better fluid mixing, and reduced temperature difference at the outer wall. Additionally, the catalytic combustor exhibits lower average flow velocity and pressure loss at an inlet velocity of 10 m/s.

Recognition of Distributed Combustion Regime From Deep Learning

Rishi Roy et al.

Summary: In this study, swirl-assisted distributed combustion was examined using a deep-learning framework. High intensity distributed combustion was achieved by diluting the flowfield and reducing the adiabatic flame temperature. A convolutional neural network was developed to recognize flame images at different oxygen concentrations, leading to successful recognition of the distributed combustion regime.

Effects of micro-combustor geometry and size on the heat transfer and combustion characteristics of premixed hydrogen/air flames

Alireza Rahbari et al.

Summary: The major challenge in the development of micro-combustors is flame instabilities, which lead to non-uniform wall temperature distribution and lower combustion efficiency. This research investigates the combustion characteristics and geometrical configurations on flame stability and combustion efficiency, with a detailed chemical reaction mechanism developed and parametric study conducted. Increasing thermal conductivity coefficient, equivalence ratio, and using a micro-combustor with bluff body are identified as effective ways to improve combustion performance.

Linhong Li et al.

Summary: The study verified that a symmetrical configuration of micro-combustor can improve combustion efficiency and radiation efficiency, allowing it to operate at higher average velocities. Furthermore, as the average velocity increases, combustion efficiency decreases monotonically while radiation efficiency and radiant energy output increase first and then decrease.

Experimental investigation of flame fluctuation reduction in distributed combustion

Rishi Roy et al.

Summary: The study compares normal air combustion and distributed combustion using methane fuel in a swirl-stabilized burner. Distributed combustion is achieved by diluting the inlet air stream with carbon dioxide, resulting in a gradual drop in adiabatic flame temperature. Different combustion dynamics and instability patterns were observed in the two combustion methods.
