Extraction and separation of lipids from municipal sewage sludge for biodiesel production: Kinetics and thermodynamics modeling

Alyaa Abdulhussein Alsaedi et al.

Summary: This study assessed the feasibility of using municipal sewage sludge as a feedstock for biodiesel production. The results showed that lipids can be extracted from sewage sludge using the soxhlet extraction method, and biodiesel can be synthesized from the extracted lipids using alkaline transesterification. The physicochemical properties of the biodiesel met the relevant standards.

Direct Transesterification for Biodiesel Production and Testing the Engine for Performance and Emissions Run on Biodiesel-Diesel-Nano Blends

T. M. Yunus Khan

Summary: In this study, biodiesel was prepared from Neem and Karanja oil using acid-base catalysts in a single step, with Neem biodiesel showing better fuel properties compared to Karanja biodiesel. The effects of graphene nano particles on biodiesel-diesel blend fuel properties were investigated, and higher concentrations of nano particles improved the properties except kinematic viscosity. Performance and emissions tests on a diesel engine showed higher brake thermal efficiency and lower fuel consumption for concentrated B20-nano blends of Neem and Karanja compared to their respective B20 blends, with significant reductions in carbon monoxide emissions.
