Mechanistic studies of carbocycles on elemental mercury adsorption on carbonaceous surface

Huang Qin et al.

Summary: The study utilized density functional theory to investigate the effect of multiple-membered carbocycles on the adsorption of elemental mercury on carbon surfaces. Results showed that the distribution of C-C bond lengths and adsorption energy were influenced by the presence of MMC, leading to different trends in adsorption categories.

Revealing the optical properties of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon clusters with surface formyl groups

Hongliang Li et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that the optical properties of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) clusters are significantly influenced by surface functionalization, with higher coverage of -CHO groups resulting in smaller HOMO-LUMO gaps. The impact of functional groups on the LUMO energy was calculated to be 0.27-0.71 eV, with the LUMO energy being lowered to a great extent by -CHO groups. Furthermore, the potential maximum reduction in gap was calculated as 1.1 eV for both pyrene and coronene clusters.
