Protective Effects of Natural Polysaccharides on Intestinal Barrier Injury: A Review

Jiaying Huo et al.

Summary: This review examines the protective effects of natural polysaccharides (NPs) as adjuvant therapy for diseases caused by intestinal barrier injury (IBI). NPs are found to minimize oxidative stress, inflammation, and malignant growth, making them a potential treatment option for IBI-related diseases. The review discusses the potential mechanisms of NPs in directly maintaining intestinal barrier integrity and indirectly regulating intestinal immunity and microbiota. It also highlights the structure-activity relationships of polysaccharides and the potential challenges associated with using NPs in the treatment of IBI-induced intestinal diseases.

Structure-activity relationship of antioxidant polysaccharides from Huangshui based on the HPLC fingerprint combined with chemometrics methods

Jiaying Huo et al.

Summary: This study explored the relationship between the HPLC fingerprints of Huangshui polysaccharides (HSPs) and their antioxidant activities in vitro for the first time using chemometrics method. The findings showed that the elution method, monosaccharide composition, purity, protein contents, and molecular weights of HSPs all significantly affected their antioxidant activities.

Synthesis, characterization, and methylene blue adsorption of multiple-responsive hydrogels loaded with Huangshui polysaccharides, polyvinyl alcohol, and sodium carboxyl methyl cellulose

Ziyan Wu et al.

Summary: This study synthesized a series of novel hydrogels using Huangshui polysaccharides (HSPs) and found that HSPs enhanced the swelling capacity and methylene blue (MB) adsorption ability of the hydrogels. The results demonstrate that HSPs can effectively promote the properties of hydrogels and have potential application in MB removal.

Dietary seaweed-derived polysaccharides improve growth performance of weaned pigs through maintaining intestinal barrier function and modulating gut microbial populations

Tiande Zou et al.

Summary: The study found that seaweed-derived polysaccharides (SDP) are beneficial for growth performance and intestinal health in weaned pigs. SDP supplementation improved ADG, reduced F/G ratio, decreased diarrhea rate, and enhanced beneficial gut microbiota and concentrations of short-chain fatty acids in the intestines.
