Investigation and dynamic profiling of oligopeptides, free amino acids and derivatives during Pu-erh tea fermentation by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry

Shengshuang Chen et al.

Summary: This study utilized UHPLC-Q-TOF/MS to analyze the dynamic changes of oligopeptides, free amino acids, and derivatives during Pu-erh tea fermentation, and found that certain N-acetyl amino acids may act as potential inhibitors of neurokinin-1 receptor. Additionally, the results of metamicrobiology indicated that Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus luchuensis were more efficient in metabolizing proteins, oligopeptides, and amino acids during fermentation.

Green tea-derived theabrownin suppresses human non-small cell lung carcinoma in xenograft model through activation of not only p53 signaling but also MAPK/JNK signaling pathway

Xiujuan Xiao et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and mechanism of theabrownin (TB) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell lines. The results showed that TB inhibited tumor growth and migration in NSCLC cells and mediated its effects through the activation of the MAPK/JNK signaling pathway.

Discovery and Functional Analysis of a Salicylic Acid Hydroxylase from Aspergillus niger

Ronnie J. M. Lubbers et al.

Summary: Salicylic acid plays a crucial role in the plant immune response and its degradation is important for plant-pathogenic fungi. In the filamentous fungus Aspergillus niger, two metabolic pathways for salicylic acid have been suggested. This study identified genes involved in salicylic acid metabolism in A. niger and confirmed the function of ShyA and CrcA in converting salicylic acid to cis,cis-muconic acid. The findings offer insights into efficient utilization of plant biomass and alternative methods for producing platform chemicals like cis,cis-muconic acid.

Crystal Structure and Regiospecificity of Catechol O-Methyltransferase from Niastella koreensis

Seul Hoo Lee et al.

Summary: The study reported the biochemical and structural analysis of COMT enzyme from Niastella koreensis, revealing that its activity is mainly influenced by magnesium ion, but also shows significant activity with copper and zinc ions. Structural analysis showed that the region near the SAM binding site undergoes conformational changes upon binding of the cosubstrate and the metal ion. Additionally, by developing variants, the activity and selectivity of NkCOMT can be enhanced.
