A new method to measure the three-dimensional solubility parameters of acrylate rubber and predict its oil resistance

Rui Su et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new method for predicting the oil resistance of rubber by measuring the swelling behavior of rubber in various organic solvents to obtain its three-dimensional solubility parameters, demonstrating that this method is more accurate in predicting rubber swelling performance compared to traditional one-dimensional solubility parameters.

New Flory-Huggins interaction parameter between SBR and p-phenylenediamine antioxidants and the predictive power in molecular structure and rubber formula design

Susu Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that the solubility of antioxidants is higher than that of SBR, and the increment increases with temperature. Chi(N) calculated by HSP values can predict the compatibility between SBR and antioxidants to aid in designing green tire tread formulas.

Analysis of diffusion characteristics for aromatic solvents through carbon black filled natural rubber/ butadiene rubber blends

Abitha Vayyaprontavida Kaliyathan et al.

Summary: Understanding the effect of solvents on polymers is crucial for various industrial and laboratory purposes. Swelling in rubber products, caused by easy penetration of solvent molecules due to flexible rubber chains, can be reduced by adding fillers like carbon black, which decreases chain flexibility and solvent uptake. Experimental data on diffusion through rubber vulcanisates were analyzed to predict transport phenomena.

Long-term ISO 23936-2 sweet oil ageing of HNBR

Anton G. Akulichev et al.

Summary: The study investigates the aging behavior of hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR) in a simulated oil and gas environment, showing that temperature has a greater impact on properties than aging time. The results indicate changes in hardness, modulus, and thermal expansion of HNBR with aging, attributed to chain scission and chemical structure modifications.

Relationships of tensile strength with crosslink density for the high-carbon black-filled EPDM compounds with various softeners

Jieyun Tu et al.

Summary: Equilibrium swelling and rheological tests were used to study the effects of softener type and dosage on crosslink densities. Liquid butadiene leads to the greatest reduction in crosslink density, and the dependencies of chemical crosslink density on aging time differ for different softeners. Three different linear relationships can be obtained for the softeners independent of aging time.
