Compatibilization Efficiency of Additives in Homopolymer Blends: A Dissipative Particle Dynamics Study

Tianhang Zhou et al.

Summary: Our study reveals that in strongly incompatible systems, regular multiblock copolymers show better compatibilization performance compared to symmetric diblock copolymers at the same areal concentration. Additionally, for unsymmetric diblock copolymers in strongly incompatible systems, the length of the shortest block is a more important determinant for the compatibilization efficiency than the ratio of block lengths.

Dissipative Particle Dynamics Study on Interfacial Properties of Symmetric Ternary Polymeric Blends

Dongmei Liu et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the composition of copolymers significantly affects their efficiency in reducing interfacial tension, with triblock copolymers showing higher effectiveness than diblock copolymers. Additionally, shorter chain lengths of triblock copolymers perform better as compatibilizers compared to longer chain lengths, and increasing the concentration of triblock copolymers can promote copolymer enrichment at the interface center, leading to wider phase interfaces and lower interfacial tension.

DPD Study on the Interfacial Properties of PEO/PEO-PPO-PEO/PPO Ternary Blends: Effects of Pluronic Structure and Concentration

Dongmei Liu et al.

Summary: Using DPD simulations, the interfacial properties of PEO/PEO-PPO-PEO/PPO ternary blends with different Pluronics triblock copolymers were investigated. F68 was found to be the most effective in reducing interfacial tension. Increasing the Pluronic copolymer concentration can significantly reduce interfacial tension without forming micelles. The structure and concentration of the triblock copolymers play a key role in controlling the interfacial properties in the blends.

Effects of Repulsion Parameter and Chain Length of Homopolymers on Interfacial Properties of An/Ax/2BxAx/2/Bm Blends: A DPD Simulation Study

Dongmei Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of repulsion parameters and chain lengths of homopolymers on the interfacial properties of ternary polymeric blends. The results showed that triblock copolymers with shorter chain lengths performed better as compatibilizers in stabilizing the blends. The effectiveness of triblock copolymer compatibilizers is controlled by the regulation of repulsion parameters and homopolymer chain length.

Phase behavior and interfacial tension of ternary polymer mixtures with block copolymers

Dongmei Liu et al.

Summary: The interfacial tension decreases with increasing concentration of PS-b-PMMA diblock copolymer, but increases when both the copolymer and homopolymers have longer chain lengths. Increasing the chain lengths of PS and PMMA homopolymers widens the interfacial width and reduces the interfacial tension. These results suggest a method to mix incompatible homopolymers for improved material performance.
