Lodging Resistance Related to Root Traits for Mechanized Wet-Seeding of Two Super Rice Cultivars

Zhang Minghua et al.

Summary: The study found that establishing water and seed furrows in mechanical hill wet-seeded rice fields (T1) significantly increased lodging resistance, which was closely related to breaking resistance. Although there was no effect on grain yield or dry weight, furrow treatment improved rice lodging resistance.

Improving Crop Lodging Resistance by Adjusting Plant Height and Stem Strength

Yanan Niu et al.

Summary: Crop height plays a crucial role in determining plant resistance to lodging and crowding, as well as impacting crop architecture, biomass, and mechanical harvesting. The regulation of plant height involves genes related to gibberellin and brassinosteroid biosynthesis or signaling pathways, but the specific mechanisms are still unclear. Components such as lignin, which affects stem physical strength, are important for crop lodging resistance. Exciting possibilities exist for modifying plant height through disrupting normal gibberellin and brassinosteroid metabolism using core gene inhibitors, which could also enhance crop culm strength against lodging.
