Clinical Perineural Invasion and Immunotherapy for Head and Neck Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Michael P. Wu et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed cases of patients with head and neck cSCC treated with ICI, showing that ICI therapy is a feasible option for patients with cPNI. The study found a correlation between radiographic and clinical evidence of response, with improvement in neuropathic pain being a sensitive clinical marker of response.

Management of periocular cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma with perineural invasion: a case series and literature review

Thomas J. E. Clark et al.

Summary: Periocular cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma with perineural invasion presents aggressive behavior and poor prognosis. Treatment is multimodal, involving surgical excision, radiotherapy, and systemic chemotherapy, guided by a multidisciplinary tumor board. Evaluation of lymphatic basins and prompt initiation of adjuvant therapies are crucial for oncologic control.

High-Risk Cutaneous Squamous Cell Cancer of the Head and Neck: Risk Factors for Recurrence and Impact of Adjuvant Treatment

Samuel J. Trosman et al.

Summary: Despite adjuvant treatment, advanced HNcSCC has a high recurrence rate, with tumor size larger than 2 cm serving as a strong independent risk factor for recurrence. Among traditional HNcSCC risk factors, perineural invasion was most strongly associated with worse disease-free survival. The addition of chemotherapy did not show survival benefit for patients in this study.

Clinicopathological analysis of 5146 eyelid tumours and tumour-like lesions in an eye centre in South China, 2000-2018: a retrospective cohort study

Linyan Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that over the past 19 years, most eyelid tumors at our center were benign lesions. As time goes on, the number of patients with benign lesions increased in both genders, especially among young females who were more likely to request surgical treatment. Among malignant lesions, basal cell carcinoma remains the most common type, with a higher incidence in economically developed countries.

Mariam B. Totonchy et al.

Summary: Histopathologic features of PNI in cSCC can be quantified and used to create a composite PNI score that is significantly associated with adverse outcomes. In this study, nerve diameter and number of affected nerves were found to be significantly correlated with adverse outcomes, demonstrating the potential importance of PNI extent and severity in predicting cSCC prognosis.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis found that adjuvant radiotherapy for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma can reduce recurrence risk, prolong disease-free survival, and improve overall survival. Additionally, postoperative radiotherapy significantly contributes to better overall survival in these patients.
