Full endoscopic versus open discectomy for sciatica: randomised controlled non-inferiority trial

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy (PTED) and conventional open microdiscectomy in reducing leg pain caused by lumbar disc herniation. The results showed that at 12 months, patients in the PTED group had lower leg pain scores, as well as less blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and earlier recovery. Other secondary outcome measures also favored PTED. However, these differences were small and may not be clinically significant.
