In vitro cell composition identification of wood decay fungi by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy

Barun Shankar Gupta et al.

Summary: This study performed a structural comparison of two fungal species (Postia placenta and Trametes versicolor) causing brown rot and white rot, respectively, using attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The study revealed structural differences between the two species, indicating the presence of strong and weak forces as well as short and long-distance forces within microbial cell structures.

Lignin nanoparticles containing essential oils for controlling Phytophthora cactorum diseases

Anna Maria Vettraino et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the potential of using lignin nanoparticles loaded with thyme essential oil for controlling Phytophthora cactorum infections on Pinus nigra. Results showed that this method effectively reduced the mortality of inoculated pine seedlings, suggesting the potential of using EO-LNPs to improve plant health in greenhouse settings.

Mechanical characterization of homogeneous and hybrid beech-Corsican pine glue-laminated timber beams

Martina Sciomenta et al.

Summary: This study examines the mechanical characteristics and stiffness of novel homogeneous and hybrid glue-laminated timber beams made of beech Corsican pine boards and melamine-based adhesive. The results demonstrate the potential of hardwood for manufacturing glulam beams, including those with low graded timber boards in the inner layers, and highlight the opportunity for material optimization.

Mechanical characterization of novel Homogeneous Beech and hybrid Beech-Corsican Pine thin Cross-Laminated timber panels

Martina Sciomenta et al.

Summary: The recent extension of the great Beech forests in Europe has led to the investigation of using this hardwood species for producing Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) panels. Through experimental and numerical analysis, the mechanical performances of Beech CLT panels have been evaluated, showing good behavior of homogeneous hardwood panels and excellent performance of hybrid configurations.
