Effect of chemogenetic inhibition of lateral habenula neuronal activity on cocaine- and food-seeking behaviors in the rat

Sunila G. Nair et al.

Summary: The study found that inhibiting LHb neurons increased cocaine self-administration and decreased reinstatement, without affecting food-related behaviors. This suggests that LHb inhibition specifically mediates behaviors reinforced by cocaine, showing a dissociation in the role of LHb neurons in cocaine self-administration versus reinstatement of cocaine seeking.
