Spatiotemporal patterns of habitat quality and its topographic gradient effects of Hubei Province based on the InVEST model

Pengnan Xiao et al.

Summary: Based on DEM data and land use data, this study evaluated the spatiotemporal differentiation characteristics of habitat quality in Hubei Province using the InVEST model and GIS spatial analysis method. The results show that the habitat quality in Hubei Province varies spatially, with an overall high level. High-quality habitats are mainly located in hilly regions and water areas, while low-quality habitats are mainly distributed in agricultural areas and urban areas. The study also found that the habitat quality increases with the elevation of terrain grade.

Spatial and Temporal Variations of Habitat Quality and Its Response of Landscape Dynamic in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, China

Shuangshuang Liu et al.

Summary: Habitat quality is important for biodiversity assessment and ecosystem processes, but it is influenced by urban development and construction. This study analyzed the spatial and temporal variations of habitat quality in the Three Gorges Reservoir area and demonstrated its response to landscape dynamics. The results showed significant differences in habitat quality across regions and altitude-slope zones. Habitat quality was also affected by vegetation recovery and urban expansion. Therefore, a change in vegetation recovery model is recommended for improving habitat quality.

Evaluation on the relevance of regional urbanization and ecological security in the nine provinces along the Yellow River, China

Meng Qiu et al.

Summary: The analysis and discussion of the interactive relationship between urbanization and ecological security are crucial for ensuring their coordinated development. The study found that the urbanization level and ecological security level in the nine provinces along the Yellow River have been increasing, but with a slower rate of increase over time. The correlation between urbanization level and the ecological security system is strong, with population urbanization having the greatest impact on ecological security and ecological governance having the strongest restraint on urbanization development. There is a strong decoupling effect between urbanization and ecological security in these provinces, with future ecological security expected to have a greater impact on urbanization development.

Landscape change effects on habitat quality in a forest biosphere reserve: Implications for the conservation of native habitats

Wondimagegn Mengist et al.

Summary: Anthropogenic pressures have caused spatial and temporal patterns of Land-Use Land Cover (LULC) change, which significantly influence the quality of natural habitat and ecosystem functions. The study assessed the habitat quality of the Kaffa biosphere reserve using the InVEST model, revealing lower habitat quality in settlement and agricultural areas. Spatial metrics showed forest fragmentation and the expansion of settlement areas was identified as a significant factor influencing habitat quality. Overall, evaluating and predicting the spatiotemporal status of habitat quality under the influence of LULC change is crucial for biodiversity conservation and landscape planning strategies.

Study on the effect of habitat function change on waterbird diversity and guilds in Yancheng coastal wetlands based on structure-function coupling

Cheng Wang et al.

Summary: The study assessed waterbird habitat functions in Yancheng coastal wetlands using SPCA, revealing changes in habitat areas and driving factors such as habitat types, area, and diversity. Countermeasures and suggestions were proposed to maintain habitat functions and restore key nodes for waterbirds in the wetlands.

Quantitative assessment of the habitat quality dynamics in Yellow River Basin, China

Yanan Song et al.

Summary: Habitat quality is a key indicator for measuring regional biodiversity and ecosystem service value, and its changes are a direct result of the interaction between human activities and the natural environment. The evaluation of habitat quality in the Yellow River Basin from 1980 to 2018 showed an overall relatively good level but with a declining trend, with spatial distribution patterns of high in the middle and low on both sides. The findings provide theoretical support and policy implications for biodiversity maintenance and natural environment protection in the Yellow River Basin.

Study on habitat suitability and environmental variable thresholds of rare waterbirds

Cheng Wang et al.

Summary: The conservation level of rare waterbirds is closely related to the quality of the regional ecological environment and wetlands, with suitable habitat and good environmental conditions being crucial for supporting rare species. This study assessed habitat suitability and environmental variable thresholds to find that the suitable area proportion of three waterbird species was low, and specific environmental variables significantly influenced habitat distribution.

Dehuan Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationships between habitat quality index (HQI) and bird diversity in New Jiangwan Town, Shanghai, China. The results suggested that connectivity may play an important role in explaining the diversity of certain species at a local scale. The newly developed habitat quality and connectivity index (HQCI) showed significant improvements in associations with the diversity indices.

Responses of Habitat Quality and Animal Biodiversity to Grazing Activities on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Yixuan Liu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of grazing activities on habitat quality and animal biodiversity on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, showing a positive correlation between grazing activities and habitat quality, but a negative correlation with bird species richness and mammal richness. Interaction effects between slope and grazing activities were identified as the most important factors influencing the response of habitat quality and animal biodiversity.
