Comprehensive volatile organic compound measurements and their implications for ground-level ozone formation in the two main urban areas of Vietnam

To Thi Hien et al.

Summary: Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and oxygenated VOCs (OVOCs) were measured in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, Vietnam, to understand their atmospheric composition and role in ground-level ozone formation. Results showed that motorcycle-related emissions likely contribute to VOC pollution, and alkenes and aromatics are the main contributors to reactivity and ozone potential formation.

The effects of meteorological conditions and long-range transport on PM2.5 levels in Hanoi revealed from multi-site measurement using compact sensors and machine learning approach

Bich-Thuy Ly et al.

Summary: The capital of Vietnam, Hanoi, often experiences severe air pollution in the winter, with spatial-temporal variations in PM2.5 levels showing significant large-scale effects. Long-range transport from the north and northeast, along with meteorological conditions, play a significant role in the formation of winter haze events.

Photochemical modeling of PM2.5 and design measures for PM2.5 reduction: A case of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Bang Quoc Ho et al.

Summary: Urban areas in Vietnam, specifically Ho Chi Minh City, are facing severe environmental pollution issues, particularly in terms of water pollution, municipal waste, and air pollution caused by PM2.5 and other pollutants. Although the average concentrations of PM2.5 in 2017 did not exceed the national standards, they were 1.3 to 2.3 times higher than the WHO guidelines, indicating a potential impact on public health. To manage and minimize PM2.5 emissions in the city, solutions such as controlling pollution sources, implementing policies, regulating emissions, and raising public awareness of environmental protection are essential.
