Spatio-temporal evolutionary characteristics and type classification of marine economy resilience in China

Jinghui Wu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the spatio-temporal evolutionary characteristics of marine economy resilience in three coastal areas of China based on multi-dimensional perspectives. It provides a novel strategy for measuring multiple aspects of marine economy resilience and determining the specific types of marine economy resilience for each coastal province (city).

Detection of the relationship between urban economic performance and ocean attention from marine news

Yifei Zhao et al.

Summary: The impact of the ocean on transportation, environment, and urban development has been receiving increased attention from governments. However, in China, there is a prevailing belief that only coastal cities are concerned with the marine economy and ocean policy. This study explores the relationship between urban economic performance and ocean attention from the perspective of marine news, and finds that urban economic performance is generally positively correlated with ocean attention. The results also show that the influence of the marine economy on urban development in China is extending from the coastal zone to inland regions.

Do political promotion incentive and fiscal incentive of local governments matter for the marine environmental pollution? Evidence from China's coastal areas

Shan-Shan Jiang et al.

Summary: With the continuous advancement of urbanization and the rapid growth of the marine economy, marine environmental pollution has become an increasingly important problem. This study analyzed the impact of political promotion and fiscal incentives on marine environmental pollution in China's coastal areas, finding that both factors contribute to the deterioration of the marine environment. The tenure of local officials also plays a role in aggravating the effects of promotion incentives on marine environmental quality.

The framework design and empirical study of China's marine ecological-economic accounting

Wang Tao et al.

Summary: In recent years, the Chinese government has placed greater importance on marine ecological protection, analyzing marine ecosystem services and accounting, and introducing the concept of the quaternary industry. The results show that the Gross Marine Ecological-Economic Product (GMEEP) has a stable average annual growth rate, with the added value of the quaternary industry playing a significant role in the marine ecological economy.

Regional difference and convergence analysis of marine science and technology innovation efficiency in China

Gen Li et al.

Summary: This study used stochastic frontier analysis to calculate the efficiency of marine science and technology innovation in 11 coastal provinces and cities in China from 2006 to 2015, analyzing regional differences and influencing factors. The results show an overall upward trend in marine science and technology innovation efficiency, with significant variation among provinces and cities. There is a significant negative correlation between government support and efficiency, while factors such as the scale of marine scientific research institutions and structure of scientific research personnel have positive impacts. Furthermore, there is no stochastic convergence among the Bohai Rim, Yangtze River Delta, and Pan-Pearl River Delta regions.

Nutrient Pollution and Its Dynamic Source-Sink Pattern in the Pearl River Estuary (South China)

Wei Tao et al.

Summary: The study in the Pearl River Estuary revealed a significant increase in nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations over the past two decades, largely influenced by riverine inputs. Phosphorus accumulation in the northeast region led to eutrophication risks and blooms, impacting the aquatic environment. The biogeochemical processes in the estuary were highly sensitive to nutrient pollution, particularly nitrogen and phosphorus, with phosphorus being identified as the limiting factor for phytoplankton growth.
