Phase behavior and extraction mechanism of methanol-n-hexane separation using choline-based deep eutectic solvent

Xingyi Liu et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have attracted increasing attention as green solvents for azeotropic separation due to their low vapor pressure, nontoxicity, and low cost. In this study, three choline-based DESs were used to separate methanol-n-hexane azeotrope, and their extraction efficiencies were compared. The extraction mechanism of methanol by DESs was studied using molecular dynamics (MD) method, and the experimental and simulation results were in good agreement. Among the three DESs, ChCl/EG(1:2) showed the highest extraction efficiency for methanol. The role of Cl- in the liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) was found to be crucial, primarily provided by the electrostatic force.

Evaluation of hydrogen-containing NaBH4 and oxygen-containing alcohols (CH3OH, C2H5OH) as fuel additives in a gasoline engine

Rasim Behcet et al.

Summary: The aim of this study is to obtain alternative fuels with hydrogen-containing (NaBH4) and oxygen-containing (ethanol, methanol) fuel additives and to test these fuels in a gasoline engine. The results showed that the torque of the engine fueled with SE10 decreased, while the torque of the engine fueled with SM10 increased. Both blended fuels resulted in lower exhaust gas temperatures, increased specific fuel consumption and thermal efficiency. Moreover, adding NaBH4 doped ethanol and methanol solutions improved combustion and reduced CO and NOx emissions.

Creation a novel promising technique for producing an unleaded aviation gasoline 100UL

Mikhail A. Ershov et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of aromatic amines, aromatic hydrocarbons, and MTBE on the antiknock characteristics of model blends to create a novel technique for producing unleaded aviation gasoline. The results indicate that the optimal fuel composition contains isooctane, isopentane, toluene, isopropylbenzene, MTBE, m-toluidine, and isopropyl alcohol, with characteristics close to commercial aviation gasoline. Furthermore, the non-hydrocarbon additives concentrations tested in this study have been used on an industrial scale in various countries.

Molecular Mechanism and Absorption Performance Evaluation of CO2 Capture from the PCC Process by Monoethanolamine-Based Deep Eutectic Solvents

Wanxiang Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the absorption performance of CO2 in deep eutectic solvents (DESs) was investigated using molecular dynamics simulation and process simulation. Key factors such as absorption mechanism and regeneration ability were discussed, and it was recommended to use 10% DES in industrial applications. The effects of temperature and water on the viscosity and absorption capacity of DES were studied, with the conclusion that increasing system temperature has a more positive effect on ChCl/monoethanolamine (MEA) viscosity than adding water. Additionally, the CO2 removal process of MEA-based DESs was modeled and simulated, showing a high CO2 capture rate and purity in the product gas.

Selective separation of lactic, malic, and tartaric acids based on the hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents of terpenes and amides

Lijuan Liu et al.

Summary: Novel hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (DESs) based on amides as hydrogen bond acceptors (HBAs) and terpenes as hydrogen bond donors (HBDs) were proposed for the sustainable extraction of carboxylic acids. Experimental research and molecular exploration confirmed the significant contributions of HBAs and HBDs in improving the selective separation of carboxylic acids. This finding can serve as a blueprint for designing greener solvents for selective separation of carboxylic acids in bioprocesses.
