Sunlight mediated photo-Fenton degradation of tetracycline antibiotic and methylene blue dye in aqueous medium using FeWO4/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposite

Gandharve Kumar et al.

Summary: An optimized batch of 0.25FeWO(4)/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposites has been developed as an efficient solar photo Fenton catalyst for degradation of tetracycline antibiotic and methylene blue in an aqueous medium. The catalyst dose of 30 mg/50 mL spiked with 20 mu L of H2O2 (30% v/v) resulted in 97% degradation of tetracycline and 99% degradation of methylene blue within 90 min. The study confirms the significant enhancement of the photo-Fenton degradation of tetracycline and methylene blue by FeWO4/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposites compared to Bi2MoO6 photocatalyst. The role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the degradation process is confirmed through ROS scavenging studies.

A quantitative analysis of hydroxyl radical generation as H2O2 encounters siderite: Kinetics and effect of parameters

Fuwei Sun et al.

Summary: The study found that under different solution chemistry conditions, siderite can activate H2O2 to produce hydroxyl radicals for the degradation of typical micropollutants. The dosage of siderite and H2O2 concentration can affect the generation of hydroxyl radicals, while the presence of different anions and metal ions also has an impact on the reaction.

Persistent organic and inorganic pollutants in the effluents from the textile dyeing industries: Ecotoxicology appraisal via a battery of biotests

Nosra Methneni et al.

Summary: The textile industry in Tunisia is a major economic sector, but it poses potential risks to the environment and human health due to the generation of toxic wastewater. The study revealed that certain physicochemical parameters and metals in textile dyeing effluents did not meet Tunisian standards, and high quantities of dyes were detected even after treatment. Ecotoxicological assessments showed toxic effects on test organisms, particularly Selenastrum capricornutum, indicating potential risks to aquatic biota.

Effects of adsorption capacity and activity site on Fenton-like catalytic performance for Na and Fe co-doped g-C3N4

Xunhe Wang et al.

Summary: The co-doping of Na and Fe in g-C3N4 showed enhanced catalytic activity for the Fenton-like degradation of Methylene blue. The properties of the catalyst were dependent on the content of Fe and Na, with the adsorption capacity and degradation ratio for MB increasing when Fe was partially replaced by Na. The key factors affecting the catalytic activity were found to be the adsorption capacity and the activity site of the catalyst.

Selective interfacial oxidation of organic pollutants in Fenton-like system mediated by Fe(III)-adsorbed carbon nanotubes

Lei Chen et al.

Summary: This study presents a heterogeneous Fenton-like system based on electrostatic attraction for selective oxidation of target compounds. The Fe-OCNT catalyst exhibits high selectivity towards methylene blue and chrysoidine G, showing excellent resistance and reusability. The adsorption of HO• on the CNT surface is suggested to be responsible for the selective oxidation process.

Summary: The study found that the adsorption and decomposition of formate and H2O2 in the presence of freshly formed ferrihydrite are controlled by surface-initiated reactions, affecting the surface Fenton reactions. Oxidation mainly occurs in the solid-liquid boundary layer, rather than in bulk or on the surface.
