Metagenomic insights into responses of microbial population and key functional genes to fulvic acid during partial nitritation

Li Zhang et al.

Summary: This study examined the long-term impact of fulvic acid (FA) on partial nitritation (PN) systems. The results showed that appropriate levels of FA can promote the settling performance and granulation of PN sludge, but high levels of FA can deteriorate system performance. Limited FA was found to stimulate denitrification and nitrite reduction. The findings provide theoretical guidance for the practical application of PN for FA-containing sewage treatment.

Rhizobacteria helps to explain the enhanced efficiency of phytoextraction strengthened by Streptomyces pactum

Linlin Wang et al.

Summary: This research evaluated the joint effects of Streptomyces pactum and inorganic and organic nutrients on the phytoextraction of cadmium and zinc by potherb mustard. It was found that the nutrients synergistically enhanced the plant biomass and metal uptake. The inoculation of Streptomyces pactum decreased the diversity of rhizosphere bacteria and led to changes in the dominant genus.

Nano-Scale Zero Valent Iron (nZVI) Priming Enhances Yield, Alters Mineral Distribution and Grain Nutrient Content of Oryza sativa L. cv. Gobindobhog: A Field Study

Titir Guha et al.

Summary: Field studies have shown that nanopriming with nano-scale zero valent iron has the potential to enhance rice yield, while not affecting root anatomy and morphology. Nanoprimed seeds resulted in higher grain yield and more fertile tillers, attributed to improved photosynthetic efficiency and accumulation of nutrients.

Summary: The study found that there is a critical concentration of nanoparticles that promotes rice crop growth, with no significant enhancement beyond that concentration. Foliar treatment was more effective in nanoparticle uptake in plants compared to root treatment. The uptake, translocation, and consequential plant responses to nanoparticles were also discussed.

Zero valent iron nanoparticles and organic fertilizer assisted phytoremediation in a mining soil: Arsenic and mercury accumulation and effects on the antioxidative system of Medicago sativa L.

D. Baragano et al.

Summary: Zero valent iron nanoparticles (nZVI) show promise in soil remediation, but their effects on plants are not extensively studied. In this research, the impact of nZVI and organic fertilizer on Medicago sativa were investigated, and it was found that nZVI immobilized arsenic in the soil and increased mercury accumulation in the plant while reducing oxidative stress. Additionally, the fertilizer mobilized arsenic, but when combined with nZVI, the accumulation of arsenic was mitigated, suggesting that simultaneous amendments have potential in soil stabilization and phytomanagement of As/Hg-polluted soils.

Eco-friendly synthesis of phytochemical-capped iron oxide nanoparticles as nano-priming agent for boosting seed germination in rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Shadma Afzal et al.

Summary: In this study, biocompatible iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized using Cassia occidentalis L. flower extract as a nano-priming agent for Pusa basmati rice seeds, enhancing germination and seedling vigour. Characterization methods such as X-ray diffraction showed effective synthesis of FeO NPs, which significantly increased biophysical parameters and antioxidant enzyme activity in the seeds. Additionally, the nanoparticles also led to elevated sugar and amylase content in the seeds.

Dissolution Dynamics and Accumulation of Ag Nanoparticles in a Microcosm Consisting of a Soil-Lettuce-Rhizosphere Bacterial Community

Juan Wu et al.

Summary: The study found that metallic nanoparticles (NPs) have complex effects on soil ecosystems, affecting both plants and microbial life, and being influenced by plants and microbiota. The dissolution of metal silver (Ag) in NPs-amended soil is related to its uptake by plants, and long-term exposure to high concentrations of AgNPs can alter the structure and composition of the rhizosphere bacterial community.

Nanopriming with phytosynthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles for promoting germination and starch metabolism in rice seeds

Deepa Sharma et al.

Summary: The green synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) using Senna occidentalis leaf extract showed significant enhancement in germination performance and seedling vigor of aged rice seeds. The treatment with ZnO NPs increased parameters such as dry weight, seed water uptake, radicle length, plumule length, seed fresh weight, soluble sugar content, amylase activity, and antioxidant enzyme activity. Seed priming with ZnO NPs proved to be an innovative and effective approach for enhancing the germination rate, starch metabolism, and zinc acquisition of aged rice seeds.
