Environmental exposures associated with honey bee health

Novel external environmental exposures associated with bee diseases and pesticide exposures were found, revealing previously unknown connections to bee health. Summary: Honey bees play a crucial role as pollinators of high-value crops, but they are often exposed to adverse effects of plant protection products. Studies have shown that chlorpyrifos, deltamethrin, cypermethrin, imidacloprid, prochloraz, and thiacloprid are among the most important pesticides related to poisoning incidents. Analyzing pesticides in bee bread and brood comb can provide valuable information on recent in-hive contamination in poisoning incidents.

Environmental exposure in early developmental stages was found to have the greatest impact on the gut microbiota.
