Managing arsenic (V) toxicity by phosphate supplementation in rice seedlings: modulations in AsA-GSH cycle and other antioxidant enzymes

Rohit Kumar Mishra et al.

Summary: The study aimed to reduce arsenic-induced toxicity in rice seedlings through phosphate supplementation, which significantly recovered diminished growth parameters and photosynthetic pigment contents. The activities of various enzymes in the AsA-GSH cycle were modulated to manage oxidative stress in rice seedlings caused by arsenic exposure. Supplementation of phosphate effectively increased the ratio of reduced to oxidized ascorbate and glutathione, contributing to the alleviation of arsenic toxicity.

Physiological and Biochemical Behaviours and Antioxidant Response of Helianthus annuus under Lanthanum and Cerium Stress

Nesrine Dridi et al.

Summary: The excessive environmental metallic pollution, especially with rare earth elements, caused by global manufacturing and anthropogenic activities, has become a global concern. The study assessed the phytotoxicity of two light rare earth elements, lanthanum and cerium, on Helianthus annuus and found their effects on plant physiology.

Mathematical quantification of interactive complexity of transcription factors involved in proline-mediated regulative strategies in Oryza sativa under chromium stress

Qing Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the regulatory complexity of transcription factors (TFs) in rice plants under the chromium (Cr) stress, mediated by exogenous proline (Pro). The results showed that Pro had a positive effect on reducing the negative impact of Cr on rice plants by regulating the expression and interaction of different TFs.

Mechanisms of Selected Plant Hormones under Heavy Metal Stress

Abolghassem Emamverdian et al.

Summary: Under heavy metal stress, plants respond to hormones such as increased ABA and IAA levels, where ET and CK play roles in alleviating stress. Auxin enhances plant tolerance by stabilizing the link between H2O2 and auxin homeostasis, ethylene modulates the interaction between ethylene and ROS signaling to combat heavy metal stress, and CKs reduce ROS levels to alleviate metal stress.

Chromium Stress in Plants: Toxicity, Tolerance and Phytoremediation

Dipali Srivastava et al.

Summary: The extensive industrial activities have led to an increase in chromium contamination, which severely affects plant growth and is recognized as a human carcinogen. Cr(VI) is the most toxic and persistent form in soil, and plants uptake Cr through various transporters. Up-regulation of detoxification genes can confer tolerance in plants under Cr stress.
