Reactivity of particulate element concentrations: apportionment assessment of suspended particulate matter sources in the Upper Rhone River, France

A. Dabrin et al.

Summary: This study successfully used geochemical properties in the non-reactive fraction of SPM as fingerprints to assess the sources of SPM in the main tributaries of the Upper Rhone River basin, revealing changes in SPM under different hydrological conditions. This method provides a more accurate way to track SPM sources and offers promising prospects for research in highly reactive environments such as estuaries/deltas or historical sediment archives.
