Effects of polystyrene nanoplastics with different functional groups on the accumulation and toxicity of Pb on dandelion

Zhengguo Song et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of three types of nanoparticles (PS, CPS, and APS) on the accumulation and toxicity of lead (Pb) in dandelion were investigated. Results showed that the presence of these nanoparticles caused cell damage, inhibited Rubisco and root activities, and hindered nutrient uptake and photosynthesis. APS had a greater inhibitory effect on dandelion biomass compared to PS and CPS. APS was also more likely to enter dandelion roots. The presence of Pb increased the toxicity of PS and CPS, but not APS, on dandelion. Furthermore, PS and CPS reduced Pb uptake, while APS slightly inhibited Pb accumulation but aggravated its toxicity in dandelion.
